Not a fan of GHS Strings...

I've used GHS Bass Boomers a couple of times and I know a lot of people here on the Talk Bass Forums really like them but for whatever reason i've never been to fond of them.
Feel free to leave your opinions on GHS strings as well and if there is maybe a different set of GHS strings that I should try, please recommend the.

Depending on what you are looking for tone wise . I have a set pf Boomers on my Stingray but they do not impress me at all. For similar tone but overall better sound try GHS Pressure wounds nice lows better highs and mids that the boomers but not too much string noise.

Love Boomers! They are a great FULL tone roundwound. I also dig the PressureWounds but the GHS Progressives are my favorite a string!

I have always been pleased with Boomers tone and they lasted long. I just put a set of Pressurewound on my Jazz and really like them. Round vibe but they feel as if they won't be rough on that 51 year old fretboard.

What kind of sound are you looking for, and specifically what aren't the Boomers doing for you? I've played the bulk of our sets so would be happy to give you a couple of options based on that info.

Been playing GHS Boomers for well over 30 years. Love them. Occasionally I try others, but I've always come back to Boomers. Clear, full tone, good lifespan. Although, Mabassplaya now has me interested in GHS Progressives -- amazing B-string, he says.

It is. I'm one of those guys that uses the B string mainly above the 5th fret, and it's got great clarity up the fretboard as well as in the low range.

I'm telling you man, to my ears and on my bass this is THE B string to have.

I'm the same but I love the Progressives B above the 5th fret as well. Its not boomy at all. Its thunderous but with focus and definition!

To me, brand new Boomers sound like a horrifying clickety-clankety racket. BUT, when playing with a band they really cut through the mix.

Every bass I've ever owned (around a dozen or so now) has been dressed in Boomers for three great reasons:
1) they sound great right out of the package, no break in period needed.
2) they are affordable, getting soaked for $50+ a pack is just crazy.
3) they are a Michigan based company, so I know I'm helping to support local jobs and the economy.

Hearing all the love for the Progressives B string has me intrigued. Gonna have to get a set for my Rebop 5, not that the Boomers don't sound good, but I'm curious to hear and feel the difference.

The only reason I dont use boomers is because they have silks. They sound great, and I have never experienced them going dead faster than any othe nickle round wound.

I just much prefer the look of bare strings. Plus they look terrible if you have to take the strings off a couple of times.

I gotcha. I think it looks classy but they can fray pretty bad if repeatedly installed.

Do the progressives have silks? It sounds like they have everything I want in a string. Higher tension, brighter than nickles but not to bright. The same reason I use Lo Riders now.
