As you all probably know I have two GK MB-200 heads in a small rack. I now have a TC Bam200 coming for the small stage gigs to use with one 4 Ohm cabinet.

Yes, I hate to say it, I will play in…mono…ugh.

These seem to be stupid cheap…I hope it lasts….

One thing I would like to mention here and ive been guilty somewhat at times of it.Before you comment on an amp based on it being class ab,d,tube etc please use your ears or give it an honest listen or the opinion of someone you trust telling you about it.Case in point.Ive played tube bass amps mostly for the past 30 years[Mesa D180 and Bass 400+]and have come to really like that tone and feel.Now in my mid 60s the weight thing and ease of transport,turning down to sane levels,direct out etc. have me putting my Bass 400+ on a shelf and trying to modernize somewhat.After a trip to Guitar Center and hearing some of the Fender Rumbles,Ampeg,Mark Bass among others and being around other small class d combos at gigs to me I thought something was lacking.Those amps didnt sound bad or awful but I thought there was something missing.Then I thought to myself is it really fair to compare small 300 to 500 watt 210 class d combos to a Bass 400+ or a Ampeg SVT and an 810 cab.No it isnt realistic but still something to my ears wasnt the same so I thought with a small bass combo I would try to come close as possible to that tube vibe.The Boss Katana 210 is the 1st small combo ive heard that has some of that punch that many of the other combos lack.But when the Katana 210 and 110 came on the market a bunch of the class d crowd instantly jumped onboard and was saying the Katana bass amps were all but junk before they ever saw and or heard one.Comments like 160 watts class ab isnt enough,they are using cheap speakers,way to heavy[10 lb difference between the Katana 210 and Fender Rumble 210] it will never cut it etc,etc.The day Sweetwater put the Katana 210 on its website for sale in the comment section somebody said it will never cut it,enough said.The point im trying to make is if your happy with your amp and tone no matter output topology it is then so be it,play on.BUT dont comment negatively on an amp before you have even seen or heard it or talked to someone that has because when you do it is a disservice to all of us.

Some basses just love certain amps. My Ric loves my Ampeg, My G&L loves my Acoustic, My Pbass loves every damn amp ever made.

I've been noticing this a lot lately too; it's about finding the combination of components that really gets the most out of each piece - then moderating how much of any one flavor you put together.

For example - my "middy" sounding basses get stainless strings, and my "scooped" sounding basses get nickel...my brighter amp gets plugged into the darker sounding cabinet, etc.

I set the controls to what I think sounds good for the room and turn the volume up to a point where the amps not clipping. Then after a few songs I look at the cone movement to see how far the cone is being thrust forward for farting or distortion of any kind.
