Not Good Live Bands

mike gordon of phish at the gathering of the vibes 2008 (?) was by far the most awfull show i ever saw. he seemed pissed off and annoyed to be there. the whole band had tons of blatant mess ups, and all the jams seemed boring and went nowhere..

When the black crowes opened for zz top. they were horrible.

i saw the black crowes a year or two ago. i dont care for that music, but the band was tight and played fine.

With the trend to overproduce albums and overdub 12,982,392,770,384 guitar tracks per song, despite the band only being a single guitar band, and having Black, Southern gospel-esque vocal harmonies when only two band members actually sing, a lot of modern bands just can't bring it live anymore. At least that's my opinion.

I also saw Dragonforce live at Mayhemfest. They weren't horrible, but my God, did their mix suck. The only thing I could hear was the guitar leads and the kick drum. The rythmn guitar parts were totally scooped. Afterwards, Disturbed came on and totally slayed with great playing and a great mix.

I've seen Ace Frehley 8 or nine times through the years and he's either in great form or he totally stinks the place up. In 1990 and he totally sucked. Bored, didn't want to be there. John Regan, the bassist, was chewing gum and you could tell he was pissed and glared at Ace all night.

Then in early 1994 Ace showed up for a show totally hungover and they had to push him out on stage. He was pissed at the band and the crowd all night.

But I saw him a year or so ago and he was sober and right on.

The Black Kids. I saw them open for another band (I didn't know they'd be playing, they're bad enough on record) and I had to leave and stand outside until they shut up.

I was forced to go to the concert :(

I can only think of a few really bad shows.

The Fugees during the Smokin' Grooves tour. Terrible sound and they were just out of sync. The epitome of a bad hip-hop show. That same night the Roots absolutely killed it though.

The Mars Volta in Oakland opening for RHCP. The cavernous nature of the arena made their very dense mix sound like absolute mush and Cedric went from seemingly completely apathetic to just pissed off and baiting the crowd. I saw them later in a small club where they were headlining and it was a fantastic show, but that one was awful.

The Cranberries. Hated this band to begin with, but will ALWAYS try to enjoy a concert even if I'm being dragged to it but just an embarrassingly bad live show.

I'm sure there are others but that's all I can recall at the moment.

Fall Out Boy is terrible live. Too much show, not enough technique. Blink is the same way, although, they really aren't that good recorded either. lol.....

On the other hand, Taking Back sunday is stupid good live. Their timing is near perfect and they play HARD. Very impressive....

You sound like a glutton for punishment!
