Not Good Live Bands

Straight-up worst show I ever saw was last year.

Burn Halo, Papa Roach, Buckcherry, and Avenged Sevenfold.

Papa Roach stole the show.

Avenged Sevenfold SUCKED!! The mix was terrible, and so loud it was mush. Add to that the sloppiness of the band in general, and I found myself leaving 5 songs into their set.

All the other bands were great, but A7X were lame. I feel bad for their roadcrew, for having to spend so much time setting them up only for them to suck so bad. Terrible.

The Black Crows: How much more political can you make a rock show???
Jason Mraz (Second Album) - Nothing but hippie jam with a ukelele
Fuel: Terrible. Saw them in their home town, and they were not good, at all...
Heirosonic: (Kind of signed) Boring. Bass Player was a little "ghey" with his stage presence, and the drummer has the laziest foot I have ever heard...
Staind: Second record, turned into a whining love fest, and Aaron Lewis almost fainted, and cut the set in half
Evanescence: Horrible... Just horrible
Korn: Not bad, but way off... Kinda sounded like they forgot what they were doing...

Just to clarify, the other bands in the festival with Staind and Evenescence were awesome. Other great live acts I have seen include Soul Coughing, DMB, MUSE, Sevendust, Nonpoint Kate Voegel (no, seriously, she was great, and Markjazzbassist was awesome) Genesis/Phil Collins.

The Van Halen 1/2 step solo was a guitar techs fault. Eddie got the wrong guitar... Plain and simple. While I think Eddid of all people could fix it... It wasn't their fault. Can't speak for the rest of the show, but I know that was not drugs, or alcohol... It was a mistake by a tech.

Not to denigrate anyone who ever saw Zeppelin live (I did not), but you have to keep in mind that was a band doing songs -- that in many cases were quite intricately produced in the studio -- as a power trio with a singer, no extra musicians backstage, no backing tracks and not even much help from the P.A. at least in the early days. Of course they weren't going to sound like their records. If that makes them a "studio creation" so be it but at least they were keepin it real. It's easy to apply the standards of live bands today to early 70s Zeppelin and say Zeppelin sucked, but for all their money they didn't have half the technical resources at their disposal to "cheat" with that the average regional cover band has today.

No doubt they had their off nights but I have also heard them throw down live jams as a three-piece where they were just a freakin machine.

Stones sucked
Dyllan sucked
Greatful Dead sucked
Don Williams sucked

(Stones, Dyllan and Dead were expensive -- I actually saw corner garage bands doing their stuff better on the way home from each of their shows)

I walked out of AGENT ORANGE this weekend.. talent must be gone from punk.

The only concert that comes to mind is Ryan Adams. I saw him 3-4 years ago when he came through St. Louis and he was still in his alcoholic prime. TERRIBLE. besides heckling the audience and acting like an idiot. The music was so boring even he at one point launched into a harder version of one of his songs in the middle. The band couldn't believe it and it turned out terrible.

I've been told to go see him now since he's cleaned up but I can't bring myself to even listen to his records after that.

I was there and I heard hs bands do their stuff better they were sloppy unrehearsed had the we are Gods attitude and you accept whatever we give you. they were like I said bad and it just wasn't me the write-ups about the concert afterward said the same thing. Live they could not live up to the hype just another Hindenburg disaster 30+ years later don't believe me look up in Google worst concert you have ever been to and Zeppelins 1970's tour well come screaming back at you

Was that during Zep's drugged-out phase? Seems like inconsistency in live performances can often be tied back to drug/alcohol abuse within the band. Lots of people have also identified Aerosmith as a major "live" disappointment back in the day and guess what, at that point they were all zonked literally out of their minds.

Went to a show in '84 where Ratt opened for Night Ranger. We booed them off the stage after a song and a half -- they were that bad (very drunk apparently). Night Ranger played an extra-long set.

In '89 I saw R.E.M., and while they weren't that bad, their stage show was boring.

Sevendust is awesome live! I was at Woodstock '99 and there were a lot of acts there that kind of sucked.

I saw Dylan my first year of college (2004) and it was god awful. It was the first show I went to at my school, which converts its huge ass gym into a huge concert hall. The sound system is awesome and there is a ton of space, but Dylan's presence only filled one seat: his piano seat. His voice was really shot on this performance too, which was sad. It didn't face the audience, and neither did he. His band was really tight, but its not hyper music, so they were relaxed enjoying the groove.

I met a guy there who introduced himself as kind of a big deal. He smelled bad, wore cheap leather, didn't share his whiskey, knew all the words to the songs but sucked at singing them. When he didn't know the words he was just obnoxious, and was constantly running over to where he thought he saw smoke plumes, as if a couple puffs would really redeem things. He was a metaphor for the whole show.

Since then, nothing has been as terrible, and for that Bob, I thank you. You really lowered the bar for everyone else I've seen.

Went to see Lenny Kravitz and Aerosmith a few years ago and LK didn't show up because he was reportedly sick.

Some local (San Antonio) latin band played for half an hour (boring!) then Steve Tyler apologized profusely and Aerosmith played an extra 45 minutes to make up for it and they absolutely killed.

I saw TSO this past Christmas and enjoyed the Christmas half of the show. The second half was awful. They had cheezy dancing girls come out, a video of helicopters flying around and very little concentrating on the music aspect of the show. The second concert I ever walked out on since 1976.

The most disappointing show I've seen has to be the Flaming Lips (I forget the year, but Yoshimi was recently out). It was at the Coachella festival and IIRC, they only played three full songs. They started their set very late, and then wasted time singing "Happy Birthday" to Beck's then-unborn child  and talking about politics. It was worse because I was such a fan at the time; the Soft Bulletin is still one of my favorite albums but ugh...

I saw them last August and they were brilliantly amazing.

I remember The Clash being so-so in concert. They would pull off a very fast, powerful opener and then it sort of fell apart as the show progressed. Ahh, but they did a brilliant thing; they would find the absolute worst bands to open up for them. At every one of their concerts that I attended, the opening acts were boo'ed off the stage. Then the Clash would hit the stage and it would sound great no matter how they played!

It's funny. Because i'm not a huge fan(dig some of their stuff), but I saw Korn at Ozzfest and actually thought they sounded damn good live.

I've seen Pearl Jam 8 times and loved every one of their shows. But thought Sonic Youth sounded pretty awful when they opened up for them in Indy. And for the record, I like some of their stuff.

The most fun I ever had at a show was Jesus Lizard in Detroit in '92, I think it was.
