Not One Of The Typical Rosewood Vs. Maple Thread

I've had maple, rosewood, and ebony. I prefer maple, largely for looks and feel. But I love my rosewood fretboard SB-2, and would probably get rosewood on other G&L's. My favorite guitar is a maple fretboard Strat, but on guitars my preference for maple isn't as strong.

I'll tell you what my LEAST favorite is, that ebanol crap on my Squier fretless. Rubbed through it day one, from the strings it shipped with :(
It's not even gouges, the lightest of scratches goes right through this stuff. I have 4 string shaped columns of white rub marks going down my fingerboard.

The birdseye maple on my Lakland 4-94 is the best feeling/looking/sounding fretboard I've ever played...not sure if its the maple itself or the finish they use on it.

I'm down with rosewood and ebony for the most part. Not too big on pau ferro (which is a type of rosewood, I know) and I can't stand wenge :scowl:.

yep, had birdseye on my old elrick. back to normal maple now, and even though its probably subliminal, I miss it.

From a "feel" or playability standpoint, I couldn't care less. From a tone standpoint, I used to think it mattered, then I narrowed it down to body wood being the more influencial in my basses. If I have a nice resonate piece of ash, I don't notice a whole lot of difference between maple and rosewood boards (all other variables being the same). Now ebony might be the exception. I've heard an ebony board/ash body combo can be pretty bright. I've also heard that an ebony board can brighten up a dull body a bit.

But it's all SO subjective, so don't flame me over this "opinion," please.

Okay, I'm selling all three of my Rics immediately so I can buy several Thumb basses, because I'm all thumbs anyway, and they are the greatest thing since sliced bread, and I like PB and J between two slices of Wonderbread, it creates awesome tube distortion (if you know what I mean), and, what about those SX's, are they any good? :hyper:
