Hello!

I'm going to tap on the collective knowledge about the new bass I just got.
"Not really mint" is the understatement of the year :D
I trust the stamp on the neck to be original, but the neck has been converted (by a pro, I imagine) to fretless with an ebony board. I think the tuners and the neck pickup to be
original, and perhaps two of the knobs.
It's an obvious refin and pretty much everything else is not original.
It holds two important values for me:
1) it sounds wonderful!
2) It's a year of birth bass (well, neck!) I could afford, and I wanted to celebrate turning 50!

So, what do the experts reckon? I'm very thankful for your input!

That's certainly not worth anything substantial as a collector's/investment bass - it's an old bass, or at least parts of it are old. The Badass is a typical mod, the thing has been rewired (the cap is distinctly non original - doesn't mean it's bad, it's just different). The binding is blazingly white - that and the fingerboard are distinctly on- original. I think the pickguard looks like modern, non-flammable, non shrinking fake tort (the only real tort is from tortoises, we don't want to be part of that).

I'd approach it this way:
1) is the neck straight?
2) Are you happy with the way it plays and sounds for the money you put in?

If you have two yesses, don't worry about it - it's not likely to be stolen, and you don't have to worry about keeping watch over something that's worth a lot of money.

It was built as a tool to make music with. Help it fulfill its destiny.
