Not to bright roundwounds?

Thank you for advice. After 45 years of playing professionaly I think I figured by now how to use "those knobs".
This is string section and question was about strings. Please refrain from off topic advice.
After 45 of pro career in music I would have understood that if the PUs on a simple jazz bass are the problem, I'd have already replaced them since a while mistaknowitall...

EDIT: hey I'm not gonna let you down though, just my 2 cents as it has already been discussed on another thread: "want low mids ? go barts and done"

Pressurewounds are a really good fit on a Jazz.

Yep -- counters the mid scoop of the Jazz. There is a 72 page thread that has been going now for 8 years now on the Pressurewounds from GHS. I just tried them on a 5 string fretless jazz. It works

Here's some wanking/noodling on them after putting them on yesterday.

Everyone hears differently, but for me, my sweet spot is nickel rounds: I lose that stainless steel aggression, yet there's enough definition above Pressurewounds or flats, which are a bit indistinct for me.

So depending what's the best deal, I use either D'Ad XL's, Fender 8250's, or GHS Boomers or Balanced Nickels or Bassics. Any of these settle down pretty quick, and since they're on the less expensive end of things, I can change them more often.

Again, everyone hears differently, but these are my Three Bears 'Just Right' answer.

Logdrum is informed about BQC preamp and helped a lot. I moved treble response switches to Off, have put new nickel rounds and everything is as it should be......good.
So, some people here are actualy helpfull and not..........
I have Delanos , Barts and Heüssel on other basses. None of those are "Jazz bass" sound, which is the only reason I bought this one.

Hell, my perfect amp would have only two controls, power and volume!

 With 'just incase of Venue' Active capable Bass with 2/3/4 band EQ only if needed [cut not boost]

I have considered the GRBass Pure power Amp from what I am told you can plug bass directly to input no preamp needed it has gain at input and Volume
Pure amp – GRBass

Says the guys that has a preamp on a jazz bass but is whining about his sound not being "Jazz Bass"

Like Barts pickups are notorious, as their preamps, to bring a signature dark tone, EMG is notorious for its signature treble supercharged tone.

But I know you're the god pro here and I'm only a mere mortal, right...

Kind of ironic that the guy that helped you out didn't give you advice about strings yet you complain about getting non-string advice...

People are just doing their best to help. Not everything is an attempt to insult you.

Ummm, read my first reply. I actually did recommend DR Pure Blues and GHS Pressurewounds. But as an EMG user as well as a Bartolini user, which he is used too, I know exactly where he is coming from. I also know he is used to Hi Beams as well . I have met some touring pros who are actually not into gear minutiae as we are here in TB and many leave the string or pickup choice to their techs.

Which roundwounds have subdued treble / hi mids? Have bought Jazz bass with EMG pu's. Bass is very nice but I find emg's a bit too bright/ clanky.
I am not looking for thumpy bass but more low mids /mids.
Recommendations?
Rotosound Ultramags are a nice mid-focused string. I'm not really a rounds guy, but I've really warmed up to them. Plus, they retain that mid focus for like 4-6 months, as opposed to rounds that lose their "zing" after a month and just become dead after that.
