"The left position selects a silicon-germanium hybrid for a bit more compression and crunch, the right position selects silicon parts for a bit more dynamics and sizzle, and the center position removes them altogether for a raw, throaty tone."

I'll be interested to hear what you think, Matt. I've only got 3 pedals..... a tuner, a compressor, and the Beta DLX, and so far that has been the perfect trio for my needs. I mostly play clean with the compressor on all the time, but on 4 or 5 songs I need just a bit of grit without losing the low end, and the DLX seems to fill that slot just right, especially because it's on those songs that the guitar players tend to push their volume up, and all I have to do is hit the boost button to match them : )
So. After some time returning to the Barbershop I got a Beta DLX again (just needed a little more drive than the BS is capable of) and we're getting reacquainted. On thing: The middle setting on the Clip switch means "no diodes" and it's probably normal that this mode is a lot louder, right? I think I faintly remember that being similar with the "no diodes" mode on the Black Arts Pharaoh. I'm just wondering, since on my DLX I need a much higher gain setting (which is crazy loud) to get some sort of breakup out of it, but maybe it's supposed to be run cleaner.
Yup, that's standard, no diodes is usually louder indeed (on mine as well btw) and it does run cleaner, the diode settings break up earlier.![]()
I started digging preamps late in life and how I'd have loved something like this back in my heyday.I have more than a few nice preamps and came across this recently and liked what I saw.It arrived and this turned into a great tone Monster.I really like what it gives my bass.I think guitarist would like it also.Good job.Hi moishelichtfuss, i hope you're enjoying your DLX! In order to get the sounds of the original Beta, the clip toggle should be switched right, mids and body to the left. Each of the toggles are designed to give you equal, more or less of the given parameter compared to the original circuit.
The DLX combines the sounds of the original Beta, the increased compression and smooth clipping of the germanium Beta, the higher gain sounds of the LM308 Mosfet Beta in addition to many more colors and textures that can be accessed via the toggles, internal gain trimmer and JFET boost section.
Thank you so much!! I'm so glad to hear that you're digging it!
All the best for 2017!!
I don't know why it's not in production.IMO it's Beta's best work, I'm very happy I found one on Reverb over a year ago.Interesting.....I realise this is a very old thread. I came about it searching for info on the SGFX Beta DLX. I simply cannot remember commenting on this thread in 2018 but there it is in black and white. Have been on the hunt lately for a warm overdrive pedal that has a boost function that increases saturation so the Beta DLX seemed to be perfect. Always thought Juan Alderette's Youtube demo sounded awesome and not too many other demos out there (other than the OPs on page one that also sounded incredible and exactly what I wanted).
The short version is I managed to find one for sale new in Australia so I just bought it. Only took me 4 years!!!!!
