Got a new pedal in today. I was listening to Pinkerton recently, and just marvel at Matt Sharp's bass tone. Anyway, decided to jump onto a SUF Civil War as I have heard so many great things about it here.

I got the pedal in yesterday, and was able to put it through some paces this morning. I also did some experiments with my Egg Sack boost, and they are.....interesting. First think I noticed, there is a LOT of fuzz on this pedal. And it does keep the low end nicely, but the sustain knob doesn't seem to add or remove fuzz very much, just change the nature of it, and that was kinda weird to me. It doesn't act like the distortion knob on a W&C TFR. I'm torn a bit. On one hand I really like it, on the other, I wish I could dial the fuzz back just a bit. Am I missing something on how the pedal and knobs work?

So then there is the Egg Sack. The Egg Sack is a unique boost from Fuzzrocious, and on it's own it's a decent distortion effect. I've never used boosts too much, but I put the boost into Muff, and that made a nice effect. a bit more mids. Then I flipped the distortion on and it was like the Civil War didn't know how to handle it. It sounded like a gated fuzz and would sputter out. They are an interesting duo to have.

I have a custom Demon with a clean blend on order, and I'll have that by the end of January. I am also waiting on a Walrus Audio Jupiter Fuzz, and that might get me more in the area I am looking for than the Civil War. I think the Civil War is great for joining a doom band though.

Any clips of the SUF at low sustain and high sustain? Does your experience match the demo vids you've seen?

Civil War should feel warm and fuzzy in the lower mids, but never overly fuzzy. Are you using an active bass?

You also may want to try the SUF into Egg Sack. If you put too much gain (volume) into a pedal, it can give undesired results (or desired).

I'll try the CW into the Sack, especially with the distortion circuit.

I was mainly trying it with my Warmoth P-Bass with EMG GZR's. I also used my '13 Gibson EB.

Just saw this video and it reminded me of the phrase "too much muff" from this thread.

Fast-forward to the 1:00 mark and check out J.Mascis' collection of Big Muffs:
