I put together my main bass just recently.. A '62 style p bass. I've got a warmoth neck with quarter sawn maple and rosewood, fender '62 reissue pups, fender high mass bridge and Ghs precision flats. The pickguard I got for it looks just fine.. But this is my main bass, I wanted it to be extraordinary. I ordered a spitfire guard (definitely not cheap) and it looks like it's done! It's a 60's speckled style vintage bright red guard. I've included a pic I snapped of the bass with the original pickguard, a pick of the spitfire pickguard before the vintage processing, and pics of the final product. I should get it in the mail between Monday and Wednesday, the. I'll post pics of the guard on the bass here as an update.

That looks freaking great! I badly want one of those Spitfire scratchplates, but to here in Europe it will likely cost more than the body of the bass I am building!

Great looking stuff though.

Must. Sell. A. Non. Vital. Organ. To. Raise. The. Cash.........

Mark gave me a 10% refund because he added tug bar holes where I requested none. He's been very solid this far. I know most people squawk at the price, and I don't blame them.. but I built the bass out of high quality used parts for a great price overall. And, once you see a spitfire tort guard, there's just nothing that comes close to looking good, compared.

Wooly, turned out great. Go ahead an slap a tug bar on the bad boy!

I've been seriously thinking about getting a Spitfire for my Fender '62 AVRI. But I also think a Fender mint guard would look pretty good too.

Riding the fence. Again, looks killer, man. Congrats.

Never heard of Spitfire before... thanks for posting. I have an original mid-60s P tort guard, unbroken, but it's shrunk a little bit and I can't install it on my '75 P without drilling new holes, which I don't want to do. Now I have GAS for ordering a Spitfire guard.

Congratulations!

That bass and pick guard are stunning!

I just wish I could afford to buy something similar -as I have a pair of precisions in sunburst on their way to me.

Usually I just dull down the standard Fender tort. guards with some wire wool, (for that instant aged look) but that is a piece of art!

Colour me very envious!

I you don't want to sell it (your mid-60's tort pg) you could build up a P with a new un-drilled body and install it on that! I'd be tempted to do that but I've seen what pg's of that period go for. (at least what they post them for) You could buy a few Spitfires after selling yours!
