Double Bass NS Design NXT Megathread

So, how does everybody that's using the end pin instead of the tripod store their basses?

Right now I'm just laying it on the floor with a pillow under the headstock, but I'm looking at easier alternatives that don't cost as much as the CRT stand + adapter or the other stand Gollihur suggests.

Can’t help you there. I’m using the K&M stand from Gollihur. It’s impressively stable. I was concerned that a top heavy instrument like the NS on an end pin would be easy to tip over, but I’ve tested it and you have to give it a pretty sizable push to get it to fall out.

I didn't like any of the other ways of doing it, including modifying a K&M double-bass stand to try and make it work. It was especially bad on a stage that tended to shift as people moved around The upgraded CR stand was just the best option for me. It just doesn't move, because it's basically made of full-weight drum hardware. Heavy, but best...

Thanks for the responses! Seems like in the end the K&M set is the way to go.

oh, I would love to have the CRT stand, but €250 for the stand and €69 for the conversion kit is a bit much :(

Before finding that, I leaned my WAV into a corner, strings facing in.
yeah, I thought about that as well, but I had trouble finding a low traffic corner to put the bass against

I ordered the CR stand after one of the tightening bolts on the stock NXT stand stripped out on the second gig with it, and the emergency fix was profuse usage of packaging tape. lol Like others have said, the CR stand is basically drum hardware, and worth the upgrade if you're gigging, IMO.

I've always been curious about the endpin stand though... @Persona87 & @equill, thanks for the tip about the K&M stand!

If it would be helpful at all I can post some pictures of the stand with the bass in it.

Awesome! I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one who would appreciate photos!

Here’s my NXTa on the K&M stand. If there’s any other angles or specific details you want, let me know!

+1 @Persona87, thanks for those great photos! I don't have any issue with using the CR stand, but I think these photos elevated the endpin stand a couple notches on the G.A.S. list. ha ha

I’m with you; when I bought the endpin stand it sat in the closet for almost a year because I didn’t have anywhere to keep it. This is so much sturdier than the tripod stand that comes with the NXTa. I wish NS would just bump up the price of the cheaper basses by a hundred bucks and include the upgraded tripod.

Yeah, I still don't understand why they haven't done that. The cheaper stand uses screws with very soft metal. It only took about 2 years of weekly use for the height-set bolt on the legs to strip and become useless.

Mine only took 2 gigs to strip out. Okay... plus a few practice sessions, but still. lol

I wish I would've gotten a picture of the obscene amount of packaging tape I had to wrap it with to keep it from slipping down during the gig. Oy!

I discovered a slight crack between the body and fingerboard l on the E side of my WAV from around the 5th position all the way to the end. Should I be worried?

I have the same thing on my WAV4, and assumed it was the beginning of the end.

That was my excuse to order a Stico a couple of years ago as its successor, and as yet it's stubbornly refused to die. I'm starting to think it's just a crack in the paint.
