Double Bass NS Design WAV4 megathread part II

Haha yess! I'm actually from Germany and live in Spain, but I'll be moving very soon. Just I'm not sure yet where I'm going to stay, just somewhere in the central europe area.
I'm also hoping to buy the NS WAV that is posted in the for sale section, I'm planning a trip to Budapest to get it. He still has the original strings on so I'm looking for a good replacement.
From Spain to Budapest: that's quite a shopping trip! I'd make it a holliday.
If you want to make a string choice I suggest the Gollihur site. They have very useful descriptions of all strings they're selling. I think they also recommend the Obligato's for the Wav. As they are German strings they are cheaper in Germany though.

Just ordered mine from Gollihur, having it shipped out to the beach house on LBI... Be a nice 'lil surprise when I get down there this weekend

Will do! I special ordered mine from Mr. Gollihur with the Obligatos installed and set up, so it'll be ready to roll once I get it. Now the wait...
A musik shop from germany has just sent me a mail as I asked them for a price request.
They told me that they are waiting for the new WAV models which will be manufactured in the chech republic, they also added that they are very keen on getting the new ones as the chinease ones had some lacks in the quality.
Did anyone know about this? Are there any information on when the new ones will be for sale?

Don't know if it is the same instrument but it would appear NS are producing a new line of bowed instruments in the Czech Republic. Have a look on the news page of the NS site. Look under "You name it", May 29,2009.

Ok thanks, they are telling me that they will be delivered about September and theire price should be the same as the WAV.
For the same price, I'd wait for the Czech model.

One wit on the comments page posted a suggestion.

It`s not the "Crav" and it`s not the same price as the Wav

In a typical 'mom' fashion, my mother has informed me a big box has landed on the front steps of the beach house. Also, she has informed me she will be taking pictures and sending them- since I can't get down there this weekend to get it

I've started fiddling with the electronics. I want to see if a blended sound between the plucking en bowing is possible. I prefer the bowing sound, but the plucking sometimes sounds better in the higher registers.
On the inside the electronics seem very straightforward. There's two sets of two wires coming out of the bridge part. In both sets there's one grounded wire and one hot wire. The red one is switched as the bowing sound, the black one for the plucking sound. To see if a blended sound was not impossible because of for instance a fase problem I disconnected the black wire and connected it to the red one. The result was very close to the bowing sound. I could not hear a distinct contribution from the plucking sound. I will temporarily install two volume pots to see if this will make different sounds possible.
What is strange though is when i had the black 'plucking' lead completely disconnected it was still in contact with the red 'bowing' wire. The wav was connected to the amp and switched to bowing. I could hear a hum when touched the black wire end coming out of the pick up. With two separate piezo pickups in the bridge this would not be possible, right? I can't think of any other way how the pickups work.
Any suggestions? Has anyone tried this already?

Matthijs, there are some posts on the original thread about adding a pre-amp inside the cavity. There was also a link to a schematic, which I've been told is a fairly simple but good design, and it is reported to be a great improvement over the passive version.
