I'm a senior in high school right now, and am looking to go to college in new york. Iv never really been to new york and am not sure how i would transport an amp to gigs. So my question is whats a light weight rig that i can easily transport? (i was looking at markbass f1 heads)

Anyone who gigs in New York out there that can give me any advice?

Thanks and God bless! - Neal

A few ways I've done it:

1) Strap it to a dolly w. handles and get on the subway (It sucks, but this will probably be the main way you do things). Hopstop.com is a good site to get directions around town... and always give yourself lots of extra time for train delays and what not. If you leave "on time" w. lots of equipment, you WILL be late.
2) Car Service. Ask for a van. Costs a lot, but it's less hassle.
3) Befriend someone w. a car... preferably someone who's playing w. you.

I don't know of any really GOOD light amps, so start thinking wheels IMO/IME.

Also, a good amount of clubs in NYC have a backline, so check w. them first... you may not even need to bring an amp. It's all a pain, yes... but it's the price you pay for living in the greatest city in the world.

Hope this helps and good luck!

fyi - most places in NYC that host bands (especially those that do showcases: 5 bands in one night) have backlines. i.e., they will have a bass amp for you. and when you rehearse, the rehearsal studios also have amps.

now that i've moved to the 'burbs, we have to provide all our sound.

edit - here's an example - i'm guessing if you play in nyc, you'll end up playing here eventually.
