NYC What Are You Waiting For

I sure wouldn't want to own this but I would like to hear this in a big room. ... Located in NYC, no less.

I used to gig with a similar Cerwin Vega cabinet eons ago. Although it had an 18" folded horn on the bottom with 2-10"s on top. I powered it with a Peavey Mark IV head. It had plenty of volume for any room I played, killer low end, and a defined yet smooth top end. My main basses in those days were a Rickenbacker 4001 and a Fender P-Bass.

I really enjoyed playing through that cabinet.

Playing on a stage tonight that has CV folded horn subs on both sides of the stage. They’re actually laying flat on their sides and built into the front part of the stage. So my mic stand (and often me) is standing on the side paneling of one said sub....come to think of it, they may actually be 2 of these. I’ll have to look closely later today.

Boominess ensues. Terrible acoustics at different parts of the room but it sounds great out in the parking lot!!!

I had one of these powered by an Acoustic 140 amp back in the ‘70’s. It wasn’t bad. I bought both pieces cheap after losing my 371 stack in a fire. Around 1980 I ditched the 140/CV for a pair of EV TL cabinets powered by a GK GMT350B (I may have the model number jumbled).

The CV B36MF was a monster. It was 36”x18”x18” and probably weighed 100+ pounds but like all the folded horn cabinets I had in the ‘70’s it had built in castor wheels and those giant handles so moving it on flat ground was a breeze. I knew I had to get ride of it when the band I joined had a practice space in a three story walk up. Getting that thing down the stairs was hard enough. Going up was a back breaker. Hence the small EV cabinets that replaced the CV.

Oh, it's in Staten Island. Makes total sense.
It’s always 1975 in Staten Island.

You gotta problem wit' da Island?
I grew up there. Was a great place till it became a dumping ground for everything Manhattan wanted to hide. The VZ Bridge didn't help either.

Back when a powerful amp was 100 watts, these things made sense. It's no longer 1975, however...

I used to run (yeah, mid-70s) a single throat Peavey/CV 18" folded horn with a 100 watt (I think) Vox some-kinda Super Beatle guitar head. Couldn't hear myself on stage, but across the room I was knocking bottles off the bar!

I had my share of Acoustic folded horns before I wound up with the CV. I started with a used 360/361, went on to a 371 stack and ended the insanity with the CV B36MF. At least it had a forward facing 12 inch to help with dispersion. Powered by a smaller Acoustic 140 putting out about 125 watts, it was enough to get the point across. It was no 360 but it was a fraction of the cost. I think the thing I hated most about it was the rat fur covering. That did not age well at all.
