Double Bass Obligato Break-In Effects?

Me? Yes I did, they are great strings but the sustain is just too much for me at this point. I like Obligatos, even with the minor problems they have.

Anyway, lately I`ve been starting to think that there really are only two types of strings, Spiros and gut. I`m going heavily to the gut direction. Spiros are the best low strings, plucked and bowed.

I`m no expert of any kind but Pops` is definently working better for me with Obligatos than the rosin I forgot ( can`t remember the brand ) at my teachers place :) That`s how and why I made the switch.

Pops` is softer and stickier than the one I used.

What kind of rosin are you using? I have found Carlsson Swedish Bass gives me more bite on the string. Today Pop's rosin isn't as good as it was in the early to mid '70's. They changed the formula and the rosin doesn't have the bite/grab that the "old" Pop's had. Also, most importantly is the condition of the hair on your bow. If you have 500+ hours of playing time on your bow, it's time for a rehair. That will make a huge difference in how the bow responds.

The how's quite new, so that might be it.

Just been given a cake of Pirastro rosin, so I'll try that.
