OBP-1 + passive tone, very nice.

I think we're talking about the same thing. I know Cary likes the tube, analog sound in his pups. And to me the tube analog sound is the 250k sound not the brighter 500k sound. But I agree that it is a matter of preference.

I have it like this

Volume, blend, Passive tone, Bass (Pull/Push for active/passive).

Notice "treble" is not mentioned in my list. It is hidden within the bass, set to "0" - Since I found it unecessary and wanted an easy way to install a passive tone control.

A tip if you only have 4 pot positions and don't wanna use stacked pots.

Just found this post. Apologies to Gimmeagig. This should not have happenned. We pre-wire the kit as much as possible. A photo of the prewiring is attached. We cannot pre-wire more than this without losing flexibility for the actual installation which will vary from bass to bass.

I suggest everyone with obp-1 preamp to install passive tone control.

At least it was quite needed in my situation since my neck and fingerboard is made out of maple, which often have a very bright touch to its' sound. Passive tone + Some bass boost will make the tone punchier and warmer.

I find the passive tone especially useful when playing fingerstyle on maple boarded instruments...you can pan to the bridge pickup, then dial back the passive tone. It removes the clank and thicken up the sound.

After reading through this I'm very interested in doing this. My question is can I put the volume and passive tone on one stacked knob, a blend knob, then bass/treble on another stacked knob? Because I really don't want to drill a hole for a side jack. This is an email response that I got from best bass gear earlier today

Aguilar hasn't been able to supply the stacked EQ pots for the OBP1 yet...I wish they had...I'd like to use that configuration more myself.

If you don't have space you can have the passive tone just as an switch (ON/OFF).

I can't really answer your question so I suggested another option.
Still I don't think it is a very good one, since its much better to be able to sweep the passive tone.
