OCD & searching for something!

Once I was leaving and had that "I'm forgetting something" feeling, and I was driving down the road trying to remember what I was forgetting, and then it hit me, "My keys!!!"

That was a close one.

I used to have a button on my denim jacket (don't judge me) that said "Of all the things I've lost, it's my sanity I'll miss the most". Ironic, I still have the jacket; but can't find that pin...

Once I left my automobile at the dealership for maintenance & they gave me a loaner.
I drove all the way home, got all the way to my door & realized the key to my door was on my keyring, back at the dealership!

I'm buried. Mrs. Basscooker and the little Cookers won't let me do anything about it. Compounded by that, none of them seem to want to pick up the daily cluttering. It's a challenge every day just to find the kids' glasses before school, that screwdriver I just used the other day, the flashlight to reset the breaker, etc. I started just keeping shizzle in my truck. I know where it is and no one will disappear it on me. I think sometimes the condition of the house is half the reason I'm nuts.

that screwdriver I just used the other day, the flashlight to reset the breaker, etc.

I've had to start being methodical about putting things back where I got them. I used to put things down just anywhere, and then I might spend 45 minutes looking for it later.
I went to the trouble of buying a nuts, bolts, & screws organizer, and a toolbox.
I have a tool bag, but that thing stays cluttered & I have to empty it to find what I wanted.
I've got it a little better now. The multimeters are in their own spot, and I've got duplicate tools split between the toolbox & the toolbag.

The problem in my house is that stuff walks away. I do put things away, just the other 3 residents don't. I have, for example, no less than 4 #2phillips screwdrivers. Couldn't tell you where a single one is, but my daughter has a new computer desk that the Mrs put together, my son got a TV for Xmas that needed a stand put on, and Mrs. Basscooker got herself a new sewing table that she assembled. I haven't seen a screwdriver since. That's just one of any number of examples I could mention. It never stops. It took me an hour earlier today to find the mail I brought in just this morning. My son decided it was less important than his video games, so it got tossed in the random pile of "shred this" stuff because my bills shelf has become his media storage area and dang it dad why would you dare to put the mail on top of my Skylanders disc. Lol chaos.
