OCD & searching for something!

It took me an hour earlier today to find the mail I brought in just this morning.

I can leave mail for days sometimes, but I can also usually judge the important ones & open them immediately.
Case in point, yesterday I got a letter from Comcast, so I opened it immediately. They never mail me.
They're raising my rate by almost 15%, so I am now in the process of dumping Comcast TV.
I tried to do it last night, but the idiot I spoke to disconnected my internet too.
I will have to it the old-fashioned way by just dropping off their cable boxes to the local office.

Once I left my automobile at the dealership for maintenance & they gave me a loaner.
I drove all the way home, got all the way to my door & realized the key to my door was on my keyring, back at the dealership!

Yep. I have done that too leaving my house keys on my car key ring when I dropped off the car for repairs.

One time last year, we were scheduled to have band practice in the evening. My office is 19 miles from my house and I was going to leave right from work to go to practice 46 miles in a different direction. Since my amp and gear were already in my van, I put my bass next to the back door in my house so that I would not forget to take it to work with me. Well, I get a few miles from my office only to realize that my bass was still setting by my back door. I had to leave my office after work and drive back to my house and get my bass and then drive an hour in another direction to practice. So, I added much more time and more miles to my practice even though I was trying to make everything convenient for me by just taking my bass to work with me.

Today I spent a decent amount of time trying to find the diplexers I have. I could have sworn they were in the same closet I was searching through yesterday, but they definitely were not.
I was just about to give up, when I decided to search the little coffee table beside my chair, a Voila!

I did find some things in the last two days that I couldn't find previously, so it wasn't an operation in futility.

I'm beginning to wish I had room for a massive parts bin that I could put things in and label them neatly.
I will do what I can with the rest of this week, and see about making sense of how things are stored.

I've been trying to re-organize the closets, but I'm so insane that I thought it would be a better idea to empty all the closets first & then put everything back in logical groups.
So, you can imagine my place looks like a hoarder's paradise right about now.
I figure I might get done before the weekend.
Cleaning: repeatedly moving poopie from one place to another.

"Oh cool, I'll just put this in that pile for now while I work on this pile."

My ex-wife would keep everything, if I threw something in the trash that she thought was worth keeping, she would take it out and put it in a different spot. I would later find that item and have to secretly throw it out again. Used to drive me nuts!! My house wasn't messy because I was constantly cleaning up after her and my daughter, but the closets... OMFG!!

Before I got divorced, I decided that I had had enough of the clutter and pointless "things" that were starting to invade every room in the house. Then I found this:
Minimalist Fun: The 100 Things Challenge : zen habits

I decided to take the challenge and actually knocked my own personal items down to about 45 things. Of course it's not for everyone, but I felt liberated knowing exactly what I had and where it was placed in the house.

Fast forward several years and my current wife is very much of the same mindset about clutter as I am. We have a very clean, clutter-free home and it's refreshing to actually enjoy the space we have without being distracted by "things."

I don't know exactly how many personal possessions I have now as I don't keep count, but I can guarantee it's less than 100 and I know exactly where something is if I'm looking for it.

It happened to me again today. I wanted to plug in my phone in the automobile, to charge it. My regular charger thingy for the 12v jack wasn't readily available, so I used the built-in USB port. The USB port only provides 1 amp, whereas the one I was looking for provides 2 amps.

I looked all over, but couldn't find it, at least not while seated. So when I got home I got to work looking all over the floorboard & found it under the passenger's seat.
I also have a spare one in the console between the seats, but I needed to find the one I had been using.

O.C.D.? No problem. Can't find something? Ask a kid;They think it's fun.Need something organized-ask a virgo(TRUST ME).If I buy something small I usually buy two(under 10$ becauses I know I'll misplace one).But a bassplayer with O.C.D.? In a band? Well I guess so if his fingers know where to go.
