octave pedal cool or not.

Man o_O I got one about a month ago. Just can't warm up to it. Can't get it to trac well on the E at all. Low D? Forget about it. It's like I can't even use it. I call it my $hit switch. Except in conjunction with the wah. I get some cool sounds there. Perhaps they're just not for me. Wish I had the luxury of trying them all but there's a lot on the market.

Where do you have it in your chain? I generally don't use it past the A string because of glitching issues. Remember it's analog, not digital so it's part of it.

Low D? Are you trying to get an octave below the lowest notes on a 4 string? That's not really what an octaver is for. I mean, what kind of cabinet can produce that frequency anyway?

I never thought I'd need an octaver, playing mostly classic rock and 90s stuff (which I guess is also classic rock now. huh.) - but it's a lot of fun even if you don't *need* it. Suddenly I wanted to play things like Uptown Funk and Billie Jean.

Anyways, my favorite thus far was the OC2. I didn't love the MXR or the Octamizer, and the Zoom B3/MS60 octaver just leaves something to be desired. I want to try a COG T16 or T65, but if those don't cut it for me I'll go back to an OC2 or maybe an Octavbre (sounds similar).

I use it as a solo pedal.. it allows me to go up high on the fretboard and still get an insane amount of beefyness.. hit the octave go up high and then a few phrases into your funk solo hit the envelope and the audience wont know what hit them lol. I also use it in more spaced out jams to drop bombs although not so much anymore since i use the 5 string bass now.. you just have to play around with it and know it inside and out so you know how low it can go without it not being able to catch.. I also play with Eden and Swr amplifiers which seem to catch the "boom" really nicely

I also use the BOD. IME, it's really picky about your technique. You have to play very clean or else it will glitch out from trying to track any additional noise your pickup is responding to. It also doesn't seem to like overly bright tones from a preamp. YMMV.

You are asking way too much from any octave pedal to go down to E. The bass whisperer got it down to F#(Barely). He said that was the lowest he's ever gotten out of any octave pedal. IIRC

An Octave below low E would be 20.6 hz. Hovering around the bottom limit of human hearing.
The Low A on a Grand piano is 27.5 Hz.

The only pedals I use live are compressor tuner and Eq
I don't really use my octave pedal

It could be since I only play worship though. I haven't really found how to incorporate other pedals yet.
But my vote goes for the Oc2. It sounded much better and warmer than the oc3
