the Muff lost low end and definition and the the bad monky lost low end and had a mid hump and the eq knobs didnt do a lot (its a TS9 clone) if you use this pedal with the gain up it will sound fizzy or as you put it RASPY becuase you probably had the highs turned right up to MAX as well.
if you keep the gain near zero and the high turnd down then you have an overdrive sound like a cranked SVT;
I really don't care if Flea, his brother or his aunt sound good through this thing. I don't even know (or care) if he really uses it or just slapped it on the pedalboard to justify for the big check he received from Boss. I'm the one buying and using the gear. If it doesn't make ME sound good then as far as I'm concerned, it's a worthless unit.

he doesn't use it much just on a few songs and where i've heard him using it, it sounds crap.
i had the highs on about 9 o clock, decent full range speakers are unforgiving. I'd hate to think what would happen if you put a odb-3 near a tweeter
I just had to add the ODB-3 is my go-to distortion of choice when I wanna break out the old brass slide. That "artificial fizz" really helps with punching it forward in the mix and adding a lot of sustain. Plus, I've renamed mine "Melvins in a box"...it's just obnoxious enough to nail that Night Goat/History of Bad Men bass crunch.

yes indeed. i have seen live dvds and his tone while this odb-3 on for distortion is like seriously bad. i was wondering how much he really cares about his tone after hearing that
I like the first clip setting with the gain at minimum sounds nice to me for a slight overdriven sound but thats my opinion. I don't care for heavy distortion, chainsaw, or fuzzed out sounds. I think it would be interesting to hear how some of the other lower end priced overdrives compare to the Boss like the Bad Monkey and the DOD back to back clips with the same equipment and same settings.

Actually, that could go both ways.....
To each their own. Live and let live. And all that. Personally, I don't care for the pedal. If you do then it's great for you but not everyone has to share in your fanaticism.
well you just need to say what you think it does and sounds like not if it is worth it or not.

"Tweeter Off" is the rule for most dirt pedals out there though, even MUCH more expensive ones.
For what it's worth, one of my three gigs at the moment is a RHCP tribute band. When we started doing Around the World I was using my XXLB which for original stuff I like running into a SansAmp but for this tone was using by itself. It got me pretty close. But then I figured, the ODB-3 isn't that expensive, why don't I buy one and make a dedicated pedalboard for this project.
Long story short, it got me nowhere near the tone on the album. I found out later that reportedly that distortion came from a cranked Marshall head rather than the Boss pedal.
Again, if that pedal works for you, great, but I didn't like it at all and it didn't get me Flea's tone either, at least not his recorded tone. I've gone back to the XXLB for that song and my bandmates agree.

Just because a famous player uses something doesn't guarantee good results for anyone, even for the player. I know lots of players that I think sound terrible even though they have gear that I like.

Just because these so called "famous" people say or use something does not mean they know more about gear or what they use is better than what I have. I am glad that you are so pleased with your ODB3 .i just got hold of an ODB3 and after years of not getting one becuase
of ppl on forums saying it was rubbish, i am really pleased with it.
I have owned a fulltone bass drive and i think that its not so hot, it did have the TS9 mid hump and loss of low end, so i had to re -eq my amp all the time.
I think the problem with ppl not getting on with the ODB-3 is that if you dont turn down the GAIN to near zero you are going get distortion & fuzz, but its really simple to follow the manaul and dial in an SVT overdriven sound.
SO i guess that's why FLEA uses one and sometimes famous ppl are actually better at choosing gear than strangers on a forum.
Also jamie cullums bassist uses one and he is a jazz virtuoso, so you have both ends of the spectrum covered, dont listen to forum ppl all the time, make your own minds up and chek out actual real musicians and the gear they use, you'll learn more, i did!

When I first bought this pedal I ****ing hated it and put it away for a LONG time and re-busted it out once I learned more about the instrument and now I use it all the time I only really use one setting though and its the following.
