odd obsessions

Last night as I was working on a project with mrs. slo and started fixating on my pencil. Not only was it as dull as one of my posts but the exposed wood was a disgusting dirty brown color. I promptly sharpened that No. 2 to reveal the nice clean wood underneath. Yessir, now I was happy.
I realized at that moment that I have always felt nauseated by dirty brown pencil tips. Back in school I was the kid always grinding away with that pencil sharpener. Why? Hey, i don't know maybe I need professional help.
I have more strange preoccupations but it is doubtful any of this is interesting to others. Why did i post this then? I don't know maybe it is another odd compulsion.

The volume on the television has to be on an even number. Don't ask me why.

My grandparents had one of the original Zenith Space Commands - with the tuning fork-ish remote control (it had little bars in it that made high pitched sounds that the TV recognized (it would also do random things while you ate dinner sometimes - silverware or glassware clinking would fool the thing). It had 4 volume settings - way too soft, too soft, too loud, and way too loud. If you only got to pick every other setting on their set, that's really slim pickin's.

Reading this, I can't escape the feeling that there's some kind of hidden meaning. Perhaps a subtle innuendo.

All my footwear with strings must be laced left over right. My handkerchief must go in my left hip pocket, and my pocket knife and spending money must go in my front right pocket while my get out of town by sundown money (3 hundred dollar bills and a single one dollar bill folded twice around a Kokopelli money clip) must go in my front left pocket. I don't carry a wallet but my ID, credit cards, etc. go in a 3 by 4 inch ziplock bag (my high speed fishing wallet :D), in the same pocket with my get out of town money. I clip my keys to a left side belt loop closest behind my left front pocket and will pat them to be sure they are there before I'll close and lock my vehicle door. I won't bore you with the way my tool box is ordered, but it's all laid out according to purpose and frequency of use. I can't walk out of a room without turning off the light if it's on, even if someone is still in that room, so I'm always last out. I always make a walkthrough and check all doors and windows are locked before I leave my house, even if it's to walk across the back yard to my shop. Milk on the left side of the middle shelf of the fridge and tea on the right, no exceptions. If I'm going to an iffy place my knife or pistol (depending on how iffy the place is I'm going) goes in my left hip pocket behind my hanky. I won't wear a shirt without a left breast pocket for my glasses. There are others (many others) but most are rote, and I'm usually not consciously aware I'm doing them unless someone says something about them.

Even volume numbers on devices.
The desk has to be perfectly centered against the window behind it.
My console has to be perfectly aligned with the TV stand its under.
The TV stand has to be a perfectly even distance away from the wall on both sides of the stand (used a TV remote as a unit of measurement, since its for the TV)
I could go on for hours...

Car keys can only be one of 3 places; the key bowl on my dresser, in the pocket of the pants I am wearing, sitting on the half-wall by the front door on top of something I am supposed to take with me when I leave.

All pants pockets get emptied onto the dresser when I take said pants off.

I hate to hunt for stuff.

An affliction of sorts to be sure…I don’t take medication regularly, but If I do need an aspirin I never take the first one that comes out of the bottle....:wacky:
Similar quirk here. At the grocery store, I always reach behind the first item on the shelf and grab the second one. I'm really in a quandary if there's only one of the item left. I hate taking the last of any item in stock.

Are you a law enforcement type? Military? I am. I have some of those "habits".
