If Alaska looks like some parts of Washington that would be gorgeous IMO. I lived nearly 2 years in Olympia and worked in Seattle. I've also seen some piss poor parts also (Aberdeen, no offense).

Simple. Easier to get to, cheaper to film in, and nobody outside Alaska knows what the state looks like anyway. The moose in the opening credit was a Washington State University research moose. (Now you know there is actually such a thing...I was surprised to learn it.)

Previous advice is good, but don't get carried away. You'll be in an urban environment so your main issues will be cold weather, humidity in the summer, mosquitoes the size of sparrows (laugh now, but be ready...) and a good winter and mud vehicle with AWD.

It is rather pretty here and we do have quite a few glaciers (for the time being anyway) which makes us somewhat Alaska-esque I suppose. The rain forests here aren't very far removed from those found in SE Alaska.

Well, we got a log home on 5 acres we'll be renting. It even has running water and a heated garage. But, it's about 10 miles out of Fairbanks and sorta secluded per google maps (nearest neighbor is probably a several hundred yards away). I think I will need some bear spray (or something bigger).

My sister is heading up there to work for 3 months this week. I hear you a type of boot called UltraTuff or something like that. But then again, your settlement can be reached by car...

Moving from California to the interior of Alaska is going to be a bit of a shock.
I lived in Alaska for awhile.
My Aunt and Uncle live in Fairbanks. The only downer for me was the cold.
Alaska is the most beautiful place on the planet in the short summer period.
You won't have bears and wolves hovering around your place as much as you might think.
You got to go find them. Their will always be islolated cases, so yea... I'd go out and get a 7mm rem mag for protection.
Scope it.
I still feel the cold in my bones just talking about Alaska.
You will get used to it.
I hope you find a group of musicians that need a bass player for gigs in Fairbanks. Learn to play with gloves on and a big
Artic foul weather coat.

Leaving in 8 days.

Got a log home (with well water) 10 miles out of Fairbanks, my home in Vacaville, CA has been rented, I have my SUV (Chrysler Aspen 5.7L V8 Hemi), still packing but some good progress.

I currently don't have a weapon (it's been nearly 30 years) but plan on purchasing a 12 ga & bear spray. Issues with bears are not very common in that area, moose will be more of an issue. Highly unlikely I'll be confronted with either though.

It's been recommended that I take a route through Canada that will add another 550 miles to my journey (thru Calgary & Edmonton then west to the ALCan Hwy) not sure about this but I'm guessing the route will be less mountainous & winding.

Never been to Alaska but having lived in a mountain town, a pair of snowshoes can be a nice thing to have. That 15-mile walk into town when my car broke down would've taken a lot longer without snowshoes handy in my car.
