Man, that AG500 is tempting. I sold my AG700 a while back, and kind of regret it. I've always commented on Aguilar's social media posts that they need aux in and headphone controls for their amps, so this is a nice step forward.

Also, those control knobs are way cooler than the old ones.

It's all going to come down to performance.
I hope it's a great amp. Just seems a bit greedy to me. I mean the AG700 is currently still priced at $949 MAP. I'll take the extra 200 watts and save $50 over a headphone jack which I'd never use on a performance amp. Still, I'm hungry for some "meat n potatoes" reviews.

I'm sure the Mesa is worth it. But, the jury is out for me with Aguilar.. I'm glad to see an AG500 but Certainly not dropping a grand on it.
I don't know if its better than the Aggy as I have only played one once at NAMM years ago. But I like my Mesa amp just the same. (My biased opinion is that the Mesa is better :))

To my mind, the WD has more tech in it that doesn't exist in other amps of this type, class D, which makes it different, warmer, and tube-like. Variable HPF, variable damping, some voodoo around the class D power section that makes it not harsh like others, power tube harmonic emulation and break up. It just good stuff.

Anyway back to the Aguilar discussion

:)

+1 about the knobs.

Upgrades seem nice... makes sense for many modern Bass players.
Home practice with the headphones. 2nd DI out with cab-sim for the in-ear guys, or home recording, or whatever.

That's a lot of I/O. Seems well thought out in terms of having one piece of gear that can do a whole lot.
Probably not all that much bigger than many of the pedal style preamps out there - but with a built in 500w amp.
Pretty nice, I think.

On the AG 500, I wonder if the drive control is similar to the older models drive control. What I mean by that is I finally figured out how to use it. HaHa. can’t wait to read the manual.
Normally, I set it at 9:30 to 12 o’clock to kind of narrow the band with a little bit.

note: the picture from the Bass shop Seattle, what a great shop, just bought a P Bass that is a one in a 100 quality. Great guys to work with and super communication.

+1

I’ve known Chad since the early days of his first store (BassNW), and he’s always been a real standup guy and great person to deal with. I look forward to visiting them at the Bass Shop this fall.
