Looks kind of familiar... Back in about 1999 or 2000, I was calling around looking for a used bass amp. The owner of a somewhat local hole-in-the-wall store said "I've got an old SVT". I asked "How much?". He said "$250". Stunned, I said nothing and left a long pause. "Hello?" he asked. "I'm here" I responded "How late are you open?"
Needless to say I raced there after work. It was filthy and didn't work very well. The volume pots were so scratchy that the amp would cut out, the rest of the controls were noisy too. But it was in pretty decent cosmetic shape...missing a few knobs, but that was it.
Ultimately, I ended up taking the pots out, disassembling them, cleaning all of the caked-on goo off of the resistive elements, lubricating them well and reassembling them. Worked great. A thorough cleaning of the chassis and tube sockets, some new knobs and a $100 in preamp tubes later and I was finished.
I still wanna join the Ampeg Club... I hear they have a Hottub in the co-ed locker room

I have an Ampeg Question before I buy one. I found a real good deal on a b2r NOT b2re. Will it do alright with my Avatar 112 and 210 cabs? Can some one give a detailed answer. Thanks, hope to join soon as long as all goes well.
Sure, it'll do fine with them, but I must confess that the B2R and related series of amps are not my favorites that Ampeg ever made. To me, they sound kind of bland. However, others on here like them very much, so YMMV.
I'm not a big tube amp fan, so I like the B2R/SVT-350H amps a lot. Really regret selling my SVT-350H and just missed one on eBay a month or so ago.
I would think that the cabinets you describe would give a well balanced tone. Make sure that they're 8 ohm cabinets as the B2R is rated for 4 ohms minimum.
The main complaint against the B2R and SVT-350H is that they seem to be far less powerful than their ratings would suggest. If you use efficient cabinets or don't play really loud you should be fine.
Thanks for the info guys, I went and picked it up yesterday. It is a very nice B2r no scratches at all, works perfect, for $150.00. I think that was a great deal, it has good tone, the sound that I like anyways.

I've just returned from the city with a shiny new SVT-810AV.
I'm actually pleasantly surprised how maneuverable that fridge is. Obviously stairs are a 2 person job but hey, I play in a band and we all help to shift each other's gear. I mean, do you make your drummer carry his own stand box? I don't.
Looks great under my Marshall VBA400 and sounds wonderful. That pillowy draft is a good feeling. Anyway here, see...
