I just picked up an old V4 today. Haven't had a chance to plug my bass into it yet but the guy I bought it from had a guitar plugged in and it sounded mighty good! I'll be back home tomorrow to post some pix and a mini review. Next band practice will probably be Tuesday for a better test.
I got a V4. Looks like this one. (I'll post my own pix tomorrow when I get home) Any idea approx how old it is?
rug I think the logo is different on mine. I have the same style switches but that Ampeg logo looks different from mine. We should get together and A/B. Perhaps even have an A/B/C with Lag's V4BH.
Yep. Mine has 6 knobs on the front:
volume 1, volume 2, treble, midrange, bass, reverb
It's got 4 rocker switches across the top:
sensitivity 1, sensitivity 2 (both -9db, -6db, 0 db), ultra hi (- 0 +), 1 2 3 (300Hz, 1000Hz, 3000Hz)
Like I said, the one in the pic isn't mine but my logo does look like that one. You've got the silver knobs like that, too?

I miss my V4B. Lost it in a practice room robbery. Nice one too. It was one of the first-year V4B's with the black line Unimusic styling. Bought a 69 SVT for cheap to replace it, though, so I got over it.
Does your SVT still have the 6146B tubes also? I was just wondering because I noticed that there is a slight HUM if I put the "1-2-3" frequency rocker at "1" and turn the midrange knob up past 3 o'clock. That's the only position that has any noise AT ALL. Just wondering if yours does this.
Yes, it's got 6146B's and it does that. But that's not a big deal to me since I never use it that way. I keep the mid rocker on on 3. I don't think it's as much a hum as just a boost of those frequencies causing you to hear the background noise louder.
You're right. I just gave it a good listen and I think it is more background noise than an actual HUM. Jerrold Tiers basically told me the same thing. That's good news. I just got the amp a few weeks ago so I'm still in that stage. From what I can see, I got a GREAT amp. Thinking about a V4B as a back up too.
I used to do some monstrously loud gigs in the 80's, and though the V4B got cranked way up sometimes in the larger rooms with no PA support, it kept up. I doubt I ever use even close to 100w worth of power on my gigs these days. Personally, I think they were being very conservative about a 100w rating. I really miss that amp. Not because of its tone since I think the SVT's tone is very similar. But just not having to deadlift 85 lbs. was nice.
Those amps are a very nice and still-affordable alternative to buying an SVT as long as you have 4 ohms worth of cab.

I guess my SVT-4Pro will have to do for now, but someday.............. soon hope. 
P.S. Anyone ever run a SVT-4Pro with a PR-410H, and a PR-15H? Any opinions?
