Official Ampeg Micro-VR Club

Anyone in this club have experience running two of these cabs with an svt? If so, is it a good gig rig for most venues? I covet the berg nv610 but two of the 210av's as a 410 really interests me for when the 610 is too much (also in terms of portability). I've seen a few threads where people have mentioned they have used that setup - im looking for info on how they think that setup works with regular gigging. Def want the old school ampeg tone. Would also prob be running an early 70s v4b and an ashdown abm 500 through it from time to time

I posted in my other thread but I'll put it here too, my replacement head shipped yesterday and is due to arrive tomorrow, yay!

I posted these in another thread a while ago, sound clips of my Micro-VR, direct out into an MOTU 828MKII, Squier VM P bass, and flats

I used it on this too, in fact it died a little later that day, maybe the disco killed it lol.

went to the jimmy fallon show last month and the bass player in the houseband/the roots was using this amp. kind of a weird choice to play a callowhill 6 string through. the sound in there is incredible but his bass sound was not distinct in the room. there were lots of factors, though, including a tuba player in the band.

I have one that I use for practicing at home.

I just joined the club recently. It's my first bass amp, and I've been very impressed with the tone and portability. It holds its own in a 4-piece, but I could see it being drowned out if the rest of the band plays obnoxiously loud.

I suspect that perching the mini-cab on something closer to ear-level, or tilting it upward could do wonders. I cranked it during a rehearsal because I had trouble hearing myself. I didn't realize I was pointing the cab right at the guitar player, who thought it was "Primus" loud.

in that environment, where his amp is actually turned away from the audience and blocked by scenery, that's the soundman's doing and not owen's. i've yet to get any complaints that my micro vr isn't distinct enough in the room, and i mic it with no di. and i go out into the room often to listen.

Jimmy - if you do use that setup, can you report on your opinions of it? Getting my '70 blue line tomorrow and am looking for that sealed cab tone in a slightly smaller package.
btw, i never did do that. i thought about it, and then i picked up the micro vr and one cab and said, "eh, this will work." ;)

but i've done it a couple times at home now, and though it doesn't move air like my old flatback 810, it does sound quite like it with just a little bass boost.

one thing i am going to do this thursday is i have a gig where we play two identical 25 minute sets, and i have to bring my svt because we're opening for the turtles and they're using it. so i'll get a really nice opportunity to ab the two heads through the 810. i have a feeling i know which one i'll prefer, but it'll be interesting to see how the micro vr hangs in a direct comparison.

I´m planning to buy a second 210 cab, to add to my micro vr and 210. That would mean it would be running 200 watts at 4 ohm right?

Later down the road I might get a tube amp, SVT cl or maybe svt VR. Would it be fine to use the two 210 cabs instead of buying a 410 for the tube amp? This might sound silly but would four 210 cabs work as an 810 with the tube amp? Would it be running at 2 ohms?
Thanks/ Max

I think this is the only pic I have of mine, but it gets used quite often for rehearsals. I'm thinking about getting a pair of the 2x10 cabs at some point as a portable 4x10 for me SVT, but for now my other cabs will have to suffice...
