OFFICIAL ASHDOWN CLUB

I'm new to Ashdown ownership - I mean really new - just had delivered today the ABM-210H; two days ago a Superfly 500! Both at really great prices! Haven't had a chance to do more than hook them up and run through a few songs yet, but will be soon! I certainly love the massive low end that the ABM has, and am experimenting with the pre-programmed settings the Superfly offers! So far- so good!

Welcome! I'm curious, how is the Superfly? I've read good things about it but also that it has some noise.

I need some guidance. I have a chance to get an Ashdown RM220 for a blowout price. I have heard that they are heavy; specs at Ashdown say 7.5 lbs., but others have said 12 lbs.!! Also heard they are underpowered. I am running a 4 ohm Avatar B115 as a standalone, along with an Avatra 8 ohm 112 for smaller gigs. I always have PA support, and don't need a great deal of power. Can anyone chime in the overall quality of this amp (as well as its true weight)

I don't like the older RM stuff. I felt that it was underpowered and I personally didn't like the way they sounded. The new RM EVO stuff, however, is great. Very similar sound to the ABM line, which I love. RM EVO heads get plenty loud too.

I think they sounded awesome. And it was very well designed. However, as you say, they felt underpowered. I had the RM420 but I returned it to get the RM EVO.

The only thing I don't like about the new RM EVO is that it has too much input gain (my unit at least). I have to plug the bass in the active input and set the gain at 9 o'clock. Higher than that, the head clips. And my bass is a passive jazz bass with no much output.

Hi there, I usually play tight stages, mostly with a PA that takes care of the room. In recent years I've realized my amp is mostly for _me_, to hear myself better than what's in the general monitor mix. So I tilt my small amps to point at my ears, not my ankles.
I'm interested in the OriginAl combo C112. It's lighter than my GK 12" combo, and has a built-in tilt configuration (so no need to carry a folding amp stand). Does anyone know of anyone who has one? Or an online review? Thanks in advance - pbass

A couple of pages ago, Daniel Paper said that he didn't like much his OriginAL head. However, if you google it, there are a lot of people who are very happy with their combos (and a few people who are not. A matter of taste I think). I don't have any experience with this heads, so I cannot help you.

Have you checked the RM112? I think it is smaller than the OriginAL 210 and it is powerful.

Thanks Javi,

But I searched this thread for 'Daniel Paper' and nothing came up. :^/ I'd be curious to know what he didn't like about those heads, though. Its EQ & its chosen frequencies would suit my tastes.
Also, my search only turned up retailers selling Ashdown, not any individuals talking about their OriginAL combo. Did you mean star reviews on retailer's sites?
Re. RM112: I'm specifically after a small, light combo that tilts like a monitor (but not a Hartke Kickback, which have a mixed track record for reliability, and are heavier).

Sorry, it's Piper.

I was talking about the general feeling of the people (mostly reading about it here in Talkbass or in Basschat). But since I haven't played one, I cannot help you more than that.

Good luck with your search!

I just ordered an Ashdown AAA EVO 60-10T last night. I really dont see any info about these in the thread going back 5 or 6 pages anyway. Whats the general consensus on these? I did not pick it up for gigging, its strictly for a practice amp in the house. Do these represent the Ashdown sound pretty well? Figured if I like this I may look at their gigging heads too. I was looking at the Rumbles too but I like to be different, even if it is just in the house!

I have the previous version, the Ashdown AAA Vintage 12 (they don't do it anymore). 75W into a 12" speaker. I really like it. IMO, it doesn't sound like an ABM, but it's Ashdown. I bought it to study and in case I needed it for acoustic shows (I was in an acoustic project back then). I ended it gigging with it in a pop project as a hired gun. The singer loved it and he always asked to take it with me.

The new ones have more features I think.

If they made a 100W 12" version I would have been all over that, even 75W would have been good. That was one of the reasons I was looking at the Rumbles, 100W 12 and a 200W 15. That would have been enough for small gigs so I wouldn't need to bring either of my regular rigs. In the end the What I really wanted was something for practice at the house and I decided to go with a different flavor from the Fenders.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it but it doesn't look like it will get here till around Christmas. Backordered!

That's 7.5 kilograms! 1 Kilogram = 2.2 pounds!

Happy with my ABM500 but want more clean headroom
It seems like the larger heads are stereo; for example the ABM1200 is two separate 600 watt amps
From what I can tell, the ABM1000 was a single power amp with 1,000 watts at 4 Ohms
Is this correct and are there any others with the ABM pre-amp?
