Help me decide on a new amp!
I've narrowed my choices down to a Rootmaster 800 EVO or GK MB800, and I would love if someone could help tip the scales.
My main gig is a techdeath band, two guitarists, heavy drummer. I'm running a Darkglass Alpha/Omega Ultra into a 500W poweramp into an 800W 8x10 (lots of mid and high end clank with a fair bit of distortion), a sound I'm not really looking to change, so the purpose of the new amp would mainly be dialling in a post-eq sound for stage monitoring, mainly to cut the lows.
I've had a 300W MAG 410 combo for years, love the punch and fullness of the sound, big bottom and enough clank to stand out. But will the RM800 have the same (or very similar) tonal qualities as the MAG?
From what I've read, the GK is "conservatively" rated at 800W, while the Ashdown is "generously" rated. Will the Ashdown actually give me 800W, or will it be somewhat lower than that, like the original RM800?
With the Rootmaster I almost definitely wouldn't use the comp, drive, sub, or line in, and with the MB800 I definitely wouldn't use the second channel, but might use the headphone out.
Brand loyalty doesn't really come into play as I already have and love an Ashdown amp, and my 8x10 is by GK.
I can get both amps for the same price, about 500 pounds or 700 dollars, and size and weight are not deciding factors, sound and reliability are. Any advice is appreciated, cheers
