OFFICIAL ASHDOWN CLUB

While I have never played through a Rootmaster 800 EVO or an MB800, I did own an MB500 and Rootmaster 500 EVO. While the Rootmaster 220 and 420 were underpowered, the Rootmaster EVO series is not. They were redesigned with more volume output and just by using my ears I would say the RM500 EVO is probably louder than the MB500 although they are both in the stupid loud category.

The MB series has that baked in GK low end and sizzle sound while the RM has what I would call a warmer vintage tone although by just raising the high mid and treble on it can get it pretty close to GK territory. Hit the shape button and it gets you into ABM territory.

The only reason I no longer own the MB500 is because I wanted the 700rb II instead and I hated the look of the MB500, but it also has a more clean solid tone with punch compared to how growly the 700rb II can get with certain basses. But that 700rb II is definitely one loud mother. I still own the RM500 EVO and I do like the compressor on it as it thickens up the tone and has an auto gain built in so you do not loose volume. In fact it actually gets louder with the compressor.

I have no idea which one you'll like better so I'll just add that GK's sound great with pedals, but if you already like the Ashdown MAG then you'll probably like the RM as well. Good Luck.
Thanks G, I just found an ABM600 EVO IV that I can get for roughly the same price, should I just go for that even though it's got less wattage than the other two?

Can't go wrong with the ABM. More versatile EQ, and tube pre with dial for more "grind", which sounds pretty sweet. I've also never had a gig yet where i'd consider it underpowered.
Only con IMO is the weight, its not half as heavy as a full valve head but compared to the class D heads around at the mo you notice it.

I agree and the weight isn't that bad for this kind of tone, punch, and control.

Newbie Ashdown owner.

Just bought my first Ashdown, it's an "AMP C210T 300" 2x10 Combo. Like the "Toneman" range that is exclusive to Thomann, their competitors Musik Produktiv have now introduced their own exclusive range, the AMP (Ashdown Musik Produktiv).

The amp itself appears to be the old MAG 300 Evo III, squeezed into a Rootmaster cabinet, with 2x10" drivers, built in China.

First impressions are good, looks & feels solid, not too heavy either, and well priced too. Sound-wise, I've only tried it briefly at home, and only using the Effects Return (use a HD500x as a preamp).

Certainly going to take it along to the next rehearsal, and see how it fares with the full band.

I'm so in love with my Spyder330. I prefer it to my ABM. However I'm using the Rootmaster more due to weight, but the Spyder will always be my favourite

Getting back into dat bass and have settled on the Ashdown OriginAL C112, my first was a Orange Crush 100 but sweetwater doesn't have any in stock. Unable to play it in person but liked what I heard via vids etc (yeah I know ymmv). Anyone using it with some added fuzz like a pedal or something? Seemed to have a good deep sound. But curious on the mid/top end.

Hey guys, I've got a question about my Ashdown AAA-120-15T EVO. I've noticed the tweeter mute switch makes no difference the sound at all. If I put my ear right in front of the tweeter I can't hear anything coming out of it. Maybe the tweeter is faulty? What's the best way to test the tweeter, or should I just take it back to the store? It's still under warranty.

We have an Ashdown club if anyone is interested. :-) I love my ABM 900, and the different cabinet combinations I have. I'll have been extremely reliable and very well made. Not to mention of course they sound great. I also appreciate how ashdown is always putting out interesting new things, even if they don't stick around for very long, but at least trying some new technological or cultural approaches to their gear.

Guess I'm going with ashdown for cabs...

Recently picked this one up, ABM810. Don't know how old she is, but as you can see, she took a beating. This is her good side. (Worked just fine when testing.) I'll be pairing her up with an Orange Terror Bass and we'll be tuning low & playing slow.

I want to know how this compares to the mighty SVT 810 . People drag those cabinets as much as lift them. Casters are cool ! I like 4" wheels best.

As far as build, weight, ... goes this one is practicaly identical to the SVT810. I do like the metal grill a lot, it can take a lot more punishment than the cloth on the Ampegs. So as far as that goes I'd say it's just a bit beter (to me). I'll let you know what it does in a band after the first rehearsal on thursday (I'll also upload some good pics then).

I had a Ampeg SVT 810, an Ampeg SVT 810 AV and then an Ashdown ABM 810 and I played them through an Ashdown ABM 900 EVO II.

The Ashdown cab has more bass. The Ampegs goes more through the mids. For me the Ashdown cab sounds much better and louder. No problem to hear the bass on any stage.

Used it last night. What a beast. It does have more bass than the SVT and a little less mids, but my Orange Terror bass never sounded beter... . Our drummer did "complain" a bit about it moving to much air. He felt it thumpin' in his chest from across the room. I think that's a good thing... :D
