OFFICIAL ASHDOWN CLUB

This is my semi-educated guess. I could be wrong.

I don't have an ABM but I have an EVO III OM and a set of EVO III preamp schematics. They may not be representative of all EVO III variants.

If I understand, the EVO III 500 and 900 use a digital footswitch that sends serial data to the amp.

If your amp has a single jack for the footswitch, like the image above, I believe the FS-4 is the model you need. FYI, they are available new for $79 and occasionally pop up used for about 1/2 the new price.

Thanks for the info! I wish the 4-way footswitch had a mute switch instead of the EQ switch, that would be more useful to me but let's see if I can grab it and somehow fit it into my rig... it's more the bulkiness and the fact that I'll probably never use two of the switches (EQ and Comp) that bugs me, but I really like the Subharmonic generator and would like to be able to switch it on and off.

The schematics I have found do not show whats in the pedal unfortunately so I can't clone it, if I buy a pedal i will pull it apart and trace the circuit out.
I will post it if I work it out IF I buy a pedal for it.
Cheers

Absolutely not, my ABM 500 EVO III Amp with an ABM 414T II Cab cost me $200 US at the auction, and I thought that was a steal.
I was very happy with the cab being 4 ohm so I can get full power out of the amp.

$200 is a steal. Mine was once in a blue moon kind of deal.
Well done!

I have been toying with the idea of upgrading to an ABM900 and run two EBS 410 4ohm cabs.
Go or no go? What do the people in here say?

It’s not that my rig is bad or isn’t loud enough.
It’s just that I like loud stuff…

So, anyone have any idea whereabouts in the signal chain the SubHarmonic generator is on the ABM EVOIII? Is it at the start? Or should I put all my FX (drive, time-based etc.) in the Loop to get as clean a signal as possible going straight into the front?

I am not 100% certain, but it likes like it's near the end of the preamp. The signal is split after the tone network and compressor. One path goes to what I assume is the sub harmonic gen. The other path goes to a circuit that allows you switch in the tube drive circuit. The Sub harmonic generator is returned right after the solid state/tube switching. There are separate level controls for tube, solid state, and sub harmonic gen.

I believe the effects loop and then master come next.

Ok cool!

So, my effects plan is to use a 4-cable setup. Let's say I want to use my own compressor (not a fan of the built in one), that will go into the input and then into the subs, and after that I'll put my fuzz, chorus, and reverb (in that order) in the FX loop in order to ensure accurate tracking for the Subs. I'll get my hands on the FS4 footswitch (sadly seems there's no way around it) to engage the SHG.

Thanks!

Does anyone know if those (relatively) newer ABM Neo combos were sealed or ported?

I'm using the RM210T combo for rehearsals with my band, and love the punchiness of it, which I think might be due to it being a sealed cab. So you might expect I'd like the "real" ABM version even more, right?

According to the Ashdown website, the Pro NEO cabs are sealed.

Not just powerful but precise, this cabinet is sealed to deliver a powerful attack, crystal-clear definition, and extended bass frequencies.

Hi all, long time Ashdowner, first time thread poster. I’ve had a MAG 300 combo for years, and recently got a decent price on a used MiBass 2.0 head. It sounds great, and I love the no-frills design. It looks to be in good shape, but the fan has a noticeably loud whirring sound. It doesn’t sound like it’s sputtering or anything, but I’m just wondering if a loud fan is common for the model?

Hi, & welcome to the club 🙂
I have the older MiBass 220 & it likewise has a high pitched fan noise that is noticeable at living room volumes. I haven't noticed it when playing louder though and it doesn't appear on any of the actual outputs of the amp so I think it was just the result of them trying to fit enough cooling into a small chassis - it just has to spin quite fast.

Thank you sir, that’s kind of what I was thinking, but doesn’t hurt to check with others who would know. Appreciate it.

Hello, I can get my hands on an Ashdown ABM EVO iii for around 350 bucks, footswitch included. Not quite as dirt cheap as some of the lucky owners here posted, but it seems like a good and realistic deal, correct?

I play light jazz to very loud metal, small to medium venues with a comparable head/wattage so I know it will cut it.
Reverb had two listings from the past year of the Ashdown ABM-500 EVO III head, which sold for $449 and $475, so $350 for a working head (if it is an ABM 500) that would be a good deal by other recent prices.

New Cab Day! WooHoo! My kids have started playing bass and took over my peavy combo so of course I needed another living room rig to take it's place. I love this head/cab combo. Extremely responsive, and the bass comes through clear and punchy just how I like it.

Funny I’ve been thinking about getting a LB30 to run with my BF Four10 cab.
