OFFICIAL ASHDOWN CLUB

@mickbellinello it's a great option, just make sure you can achieve tones you like out of it. I tried all of their flavors of distortion but in the end what I use from them is the ADAM pedal into my ashdown rig or my Boss GX-100.

I like the alpha Omega circuit better than the b3k microtube circuit personally. I just favor fuzz over distortion.
Never tried the Alpha Omega but I have had an Svt4pro and a b3k and it sounded amazing. This is the reason that I was interested in DG head at first but I saw some vids of the RM500 and to my ears it sound more “analog” (don’t know if I explain myself right) than the DG. The onboard overdrive sounds interesting too.. but at the Moment I can’t decide. I also hear a lot of DG500 problems (head turns off randomly etc) so i’m a bit afraid about that..

Hi!
I’m looking for a new combo and I’ve recently tried the Ashdown Studio 210. I was quite impressed with its sound. I don’t think I really need the drive knob (I’ve got pedals for that), so the Original combo series caught my attention. The tilt back design would be useful for me. I’m trying to understand though. The “amp” part of the Studio series (300 watts version), is it basically the same thing as the Original head (or “head” part of the combos of that series) but with an added drive knob? The “original” series are more expensive, so, it gets me wondering…

Essentially, the OriginAL is the lowest output of the Root Master Series line. The Studio Series is their basic line (though still really good. I have the Studio 8 then I stepped up to the Studio 10 for my daily practice amp.), while the Root Master/Original is their mid level series. The ABM is their touring line and the CTM/Custom lines are their boutique lines.

To me, all of them sound good, as Ashdown has the baked in sound I love. The Studio line is like a home user and/or occasional gigging line. The RM/OriginAL line is more of a moderate use line and maintains lighter weight. Their sound is a little more refined and a few more features a gigging artist is likely to use. This, by no means, says you can't use any level series for any purposes you can get it to work and fit in. This doesn't mean a touring pro can't use a Studio 12 for an arena tour, using the DI out. It also doesn't mean you can't use an ABM600 at home. I use my CTM30 on a regular basis, when I just want the ultimate in tone refinement.

I don't ever expect to be a touring musician, or even a regular gigging musician, but if by choice and I could afford either the Studio 210 or the OriginAL C112T, I would go with the OriginAL, due to the refinements and designed purposes.

And… do you know if there’s a difference between the older red head model and the newer black one other than the looks?

I'm not exactly sure, but from what I understand, they did a minor adjustment to the cleaner end to be a bit cleaner. Maybe some other minor refinements, but otherwise, they changed the looks to match up to the looks of the RM series.

Hello,

I have an Ashdown Geezer Butler Head of Doom, and am considering getting a new 2x12 cabinet.

Does anyone know if this cabinet will pair well with my amp head?

Thanks.

I see absolutely no reason why it wouldn't. That being said, there are definitely enough of those out there that you should be able to give one a try before purchasing somewhere. In the least, you never have to wonder what could have been. :-) it's a great cabinet though. I've used it with multiple Ashdown heads over the years and sounded great.

I am back in the club! I had an abm600 a few years ago and sold it. I regretted it ever since. Recently picked up a Klystron 500 and I got that sound I missed. Ashdown's just have this pillowy low end I havent found anywhere else.

I am running it through an Orange OBC115 at the moment and it sounds good! Visually the orange cab and the blue head are a little ugly, but it sure sounds like a good pair.

The ABM series will always be my favorite from that brand. The klystron basically the same circuitry I believe. Just such a great sound and original for a solid state. I bet that orange cab sounds great with it as well.

Tried it out at my used gear shop, surprisingly I fell in love with it! I was expecting this thing to have that baked in sponginess that some of the older cheaper ashdown combos had (my first amp was one of those) but this thing is super clean and the eq brings everything to life!

Thanks for your input Nuage, I suppose I have one more question which I’m sure I already know the answer to but just want to make sure, this head can be ran di out into an interface without a load right? I don’t see why it wouldn’t be able to but just want to make sure.

do you still have this head? which cab you pairing with. My HOD is on order and I'm going to put it with my darkglass 212N (4ohm)

No I don't have the head any more sadly, i wasn't gigging at the time I had it so felt it was overkill for home playing. when i did have it was pair to either a laney DBV410 or Gr bass 4om 210. it was awesome with either one but that DBV410 really made it sing, this thing has more eq then you'll ever need so I'm sure it will absolutely kill with a 212, if theres any frequency you feel is lacking or too muhc of just dial it out on the eq. 12s are my personal preference in general. smoother mids, and more pleasant lows to my ears, unfortunately i wasn't able to play this head with any 12s.

Thanks for the input. With no US dealers I’m taking a flyer on this head. I’m done with tube amps for weight and maintenance reasons and my fender 800 bassman hybrid has been good, but whenever I compare it to something else it lacks bottom end and punch. Most class D stuff is too sterile for my liking so I hope the HOD fits the bill

man if you're looking for punch this thing hits like a freight train. The shape button will give the amp a nice scooped overall sound that you can still eq on top of, but the true versatility of the amp comes with running the amp without the shape engaged, cause you can eq some really hard hitting or even clean jazzy sounds with it. I think Ashdown got pigeonholed as a "rock and metal amp" becuase every one knows them for the scoopy tone that comes from using the shape button, but they really will do anything else well also.
