I liked it when I first saw it, but now it's just kind of bleh. I wish Ibanez would offer a fretboard in something other than maple for a change too.
I'll stick with my faded blue USATK, thank you very much. Or at least I will, once I pick it up in Dallas next month.

I must be colourblind or something, but although I don't like the new pickguard, when I see a new AKT 5-er with beautifully dressed fret ends, hipshot tuners, etc., I get pretty excited.
The way it's always worked for me, is that if it feels and sounds great, even an ugly instrument eventually grows on me. Heck, I even got to like the look of my Parker Nitefly eventually...

Still love and play the hell out of my '95 ATK300!
It was the first bass i bought with my own $$$. I bought it in 2000 from a friend that had played bass (one of the many) in the metalcore band, Zao. He charged me $100 even, and threw in two Boss pedals, as well: TU-2 and ODB-3!!
I've been going back and forth between thick gauge DR Hi Beam rounds (.110s) and some lighter gauge D'Addario chrome flats (.095s). They both sound great for different needs, and I wish i had another ATK to have both string-ups any time i wanted!
It's still a rare-ish color/neck combo, so i'll post the pics, yet again!

the CAP pickups are also used on the atk200. they're grittier and brighter than the usual ATK triple coil pickup. that's just my observation.

dorknowitzki Old ATK pups can be adjusted by turning the sensetivity knob inside the preamp under back cover!
Mine is turned 85% up and it sounds as a BEAST!

Well my 1st ATK was the 200 that I bought last Spring. Then I bought a new (NOS) ATK 300 and compared the 2 basses through the same amp,,same settings,,and to me there was no real, difference in sound between the 2. With the new ATK 800 Premium does that mean the the ATK 1200 Premium is no nore?? Thanks.
The ATK1200 is the top of the line Prestige model. It is still available in the USA with a street price of $1699 at most of the major players.
I'm staying on the lookout for a used ATK1200 or ATK800.

AFAIK, you pay full price (at least I did), hopefully worth every penny. I like ordering from Sweetwater because of their close proximity to my location. Everything I order takes only two days to receive & I've never had any but wonderful experiences with them. Although I've never seen this before on their website, it shows the exact model that you are purchasing (at least with these ATK Premium models), along with the exact weight of it. Earlier this morning, I was able to look at the color depth, grain pattern, and exact weight in lbs & ounces of the three they had in stock. I didn't go with the lightest one (8lbs, 13oz) because I liked the grain pattern & slightly darker coloration on the one I bought (9lbs, 5oz). The other they had came in at 9lbs, 3oz I believe. AFAIK, they should still have two in stock...
