Wow! Amazing! Am I late to the party?![]()
Zero k7 - pre-order deposit only - delivery date uncertain!
Thanks for coming to check out the preliminary info about our first amp, the Zero k7. We have a working prototype (as pictured*) of the Zero k7 but the lead times on some parts are quite long and we don't know how many people are going to be wanting to order this first Barefaced bass amp. We're...barefacedaudio.com
Looks not just one new amp, but two: "What if you want more EQ or tone-shaping? Hold fire, the Barefaced amp with a lot more knobs and switches is also at the prototype stage, just a bit behind the Zero because there's more to finalise - we'll be opening pre-orders for that as soon as we can."New amp coming From BF!!!
I'm very excited!
Nope. Email went out today. BF is accepting preorder down payments.Wow! Amazing! Am I late to the party?
The original concept for the Zero was to integrate a zero colouration preamp and power amp, with zero EQ, in a convenient reliable gigging package, for bassists who want to hear the tone from their bass (and pedals), so all the amp does is make the electricity go from tiny (instrument level) to big (speaker level) before the speaker cab then turns that into as much sound as possible. This is how I (Alex) have tended to use bass amps for a long time, hence the Avalon U5 + QSC PLX that was my last big gig rig.
The QSC, similar to a Crown power amp, literally just powering the signal to, and for, the cab to broadcast?I noticed @alexclaber describe his setup:
This is essentially my setup, a HPF --> Noble tube preamp --> QSC PLX 3602 --> Super Twin. I'll be curious to learn the benefits of his experimental amp compared to both of our similarly shared preferences.

Perhaps a dumb question, but why are their two watt ratings each for 4 (700/400) and 8 (350/200) ohm loads?![]()

I vote for Official Barefaced Audio Club. Using the proper name (Barefaced Audio) seems best practice to me. "Bass Cab & Amp Club" sounds clunky to me.We're going to be obliged to remane that thread :

Thanks, I'd never heard of a having a half power switch. That does sound like a handy thing to have though. It says:
Full(4 ohm)/half(2 ohm) power (min. impedance) switch
and
RMS power output = 800W @ 2 ohm; 700/400W @ 4 ohm; 350W/200W @ 8 ohm
So I think with the switch set to "Full(4 ohm)" you have 700W @ 4 ohm; 350W @ 8 ohm
and with the switch set to "half(2 ohm)" you have 800W @ 2 ohm; 400W @ 4 ohm; 200W @ 8 ohm
I think the Mesa amps work the same way. It allows for 2 ohm impedance, and it also enables to lower the power for small gigs (makes it easier to set the master volume when you need less power)
It was quite common with older guitar amps. Especially those with just Master, no gain. Thanks, I'd never heard of a having a half power switch. That does sound like a handy thing to have though.
