Our keys player has said multiple times that he's never seen a bass player with a pedal board as big as mine - I have 9 pedals on it. But most are utility pedals - tuner, DI, clean boost (for basses that have relatively low output), compressor (only used to smooth my output level as I switch overdrives on and off), and HPF. The others are just different overdrives to change my sound to match the song - one that's my standard tone and the others to give me different levels of OD with lighter or darker tone. I don't really use "effects" - chorus, octave, reverb, pitch shifter, delay, wah, etc. Not that there's anything wrong with them. I just don't need them for what my band plays, though I do have several of those kinds of pedals that I just use at home for fun or for when the day comes that I need one of them for a song we add.
I'll have to show him that picture next time he comments.
