I've had my Carvin since April, and I'm incredibly happy with it, but a thought just came across my mind. Now, when I ordered my bass, I also ordered a cord. Something touched me in the wrong place about what ended up happening; I had to pay an extra $9 on shipping for that cord. You know what they did with it? They put it in the box the bass shipped in. I probably should have called customer service about that, because thinking back on it, that kind of pisses me off.
Can someone point me to where the nut width's might be on the website? I've been looking and can't seem to find them. Either that, or if someone knows what they are? I played a nice Icon4 today and thought the neck felt nice, but the width felt a little wider than a jazz bass.
Ah..thanks! So it's kind of between a J and P bass then. That makes sense. Do all the basses have the same neck feel?
From what I've read, the B50 and SB5000 share the same neck. However, the B40 and SB4000 have different necks. I think the SB4000 is supposed to be beefier, sorta 70s era Jazz.
From what I can tell, looks like the bolt-ons have a narrower nut width? Are they thicker then front to back? I wonder if it's possible to get something narrower than the 1.60 nut width on the neck-throughs?
I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of my B50, which is already past its estimated due date of August 18. Like many of you Carvinites, I periodically browse the Carvin website to see if there are any new products, reviews, finishes, etc. On one of these visits, I noticed that Carvin is now offering a free case with any bass purchase. So I send an e-mail to Customer Service to see if I can get the free case since my bass hasn't even shipped yet. This is their response, "Orders placed before 8/16/10 are not subject to the free case offer."
Really? I've ordered a lot of basses and equipment from several different companies, and they have always given the current deal to me even after I've already ordered and/or the item has shipped. For example, Musician's Friend will price match up to 45 days AFTER the item is in your possession. Granted, $69 for the case is not all that big of a deal, but it's the principle of the matter. For a company that prides itself in customer service, I really think is a poor showing. Any thoughts?

For what you get, you're already getting a great deal... made in the US. Most any 3rd party case is $100 plus. A line has to be drawn somewhere. They do have to make some money.
I've had a BX 1200 for a couple years now - and a BX500 for a year or so. I've had several basses over the last few years including a BB75 HS, a B5 JJ, and an Icon 5. It's been the usual GAS-filled journey - trying out different basses including a Sadowksy NYC 5, EB/MM Sterling 5HH, 5H, 5HS, Lakland Skyline 5, several Fender MIA J5s - and throughout the whole journey, I've had a hard time finding something I like as much as my pre-Gibson Tobias Killer B5 that I bought new back in 1990! All I was trying to do was find a good "back up" 5.
I always wanted a black bass with ebony board and no face dots - looks a bit evil. I'm not a fan of the gold hardware on this bass, so I'm changing it out to chrome asap. Also not a fan of black hardware on a black bass. When I saw this on ebay over the weekend, I had to get it. I didn't like my previouse BB75 with the HS pup config, but I'm sure this one will be great with the JJ pups. It was a Carvin / ebay auction - still waiting for the email confirmation from Carvin that it's shipping, but did get the email stating that they're doing a final inspection and throwing on some new strings. It might ship tomorrow.
On a close-up pic, it looks like blue dots on the pups - are those J99As?

I spotted this bass and that simular looking black LB75 on eBay as well. But I didn't pull the trigger because I'd prefer the new 18V preamp and soapbar pickups. However the price was so good, I was really tempted to go for it. Can't make out the pickups. Given that its the old preamp, I would think it might be outfitted with the older single coil pickups but whose to say? Have you called them? What's the scoop?
ah right...understand. For some reason, I thought they offered the asymmetrical neck in the LB70 as well...I checked it out on their website...I stand corrected...
Since I got a email that it shipped today, I should see it tomorrow (Wed) because it's only one day from San Diego to me (near Pasadena, Ca) - so I'll check it out then. I was actually looking for something with JJ pups and I'm not worried about the preamp because I can put anything in there - maybe a Aguilar 3 band? In the close-up pic, there are blue dots on the pups - I think those are the new J99As but I could be wrong. Oh, I did call them, but was told that the ebay sales are all handled thru email - no calls - no big deal.
An Aguilar preamp in that puppy would be deadly. Then again, the stock pre-amp may kill as-is. Its a great looking bass and a sweet deal price-wise. Good luck. Give us a review when you can!
