I'm down to 2 EBMM basses - a 1996 Stingray 20th Anniversary and a 2005 Sterling Buttercream H/S .
I do have EBMM Audiophile HD-210 and HD-212 cabs. Heavy, but sound great.

My '88 is definitely rosewood. And judging from the registration info on Link Removed, it seems that Pau Ferro was indeed introduced in the early 90's.

Well, Sterling can be quoted at least twice on the EB forum saying that he's pretty sure they have always used pau ferro and there are 2 fretless on gavin's site from '88 listed with pau ferro and at least one '89 in the SR4 serial number section.

So there may have been a few rosewood fretless that got through in the first few EB years, but I'm pretty sure they were using pau ferro before the 90's.

Just came back fetching my '88 from a luthier who did an amazing job levellling the fretboard, cleaning the pots and doing a full set up (with a fresh set of EB Group III flats). He wasn't entirely sure about the wood either, but in order to get the fretboard even he had to sand it over the whole length which revealed the fretboard was just darkened a lot on the surface. Now, that the board is lighter again, the typical grain stripes of the pau ferro can be seen.

Again, it's amazing what a good luthier can do to a quality instrument that seems to be only a mediocre player. This bass is now a joy to play, the dead spot on the 7th fret D on the G string is more or less gone, and it growls and sings with "mwah" like there is no tomorrow!

often you can use some dunlop fretboard cleaner to get the same effect. I clean and condition my axes about 2 times a year.

Thanks. Yes, it is a NAMM. Just got it about 2 weeks ago. It's awesome! It's taken over as my main bass now.

Buttercream is not only my favorite MM finish to drool over but honestly one of the best looking finishes of any bass I have seen.

That should become a standard color.

I dont really care for blue EBMM basses either. Strange, as its my favorite color for everything else!
But that is a great picture! You are one very good photographer! Lighting, angle etc are cool, (except you cant see the headstock).
Shoot it almost looks CGI!

PS: on second thought I still really want a Blue dawn 5er, or a blue dawn sterling. So I cant truthfully assert that I dont like blue EBMMS!

I can gladly say I am the new owner of a Music Man Sub 4 string. Blue Matte finish with the silver pickguard. Turned my main jackson into my backup.

Thanks for the compliments. I LOVE that bass! I bought it at GC in November 2006, but my serial number research says it is a 2005. How could a bass that sweet hang around that long without a home?
