All right - so I've been playing my Platinum 6 the last few days. What a talent Rob is! I just prefer a bolt-on. Who's got a bolt-on 6 (Classic or Evo) that they'll trade me for this beast?

Does anyone have a pic of an Evo (6 if possible) beside a standard J bass? I just wanted to compare the sizes... Or maybe an NJS and a J bass... I saw a pic of an NJS beside and Evo somewhere in this thread so I can make the connection that way.

Since my days of professional playing have ended my Elrick just became a piece of furniture.
The string were two years old. It needed a setup and the active switch went out.

It was sad to look at.

My wife took the bass to Bass Central and had them put her back to her former glory as a gift on our first wedding anniversary.

I forgot how good this bass really sounds and it plays like butter.:hyper:

Rob Elrick said it pretty well himself in an old interview:
"One of the things that I really have a problem with is when I pick up a bass and play it and I don’t hear myself. What I mean to say, is that so many times I’ve picked up a bass, plugged it in, and all I can hear is the bass. It’s as if to say I could take 10 of the same model bass and give them to 10 different guys, you could listen to all of them and immediately identify the bass they were playing. Now that may be great for some people, but I would like to think that I could take 1 of my basses, give it to 10 different guys, and have it sound like 10 different guys playing 10 different basses!"

While there is a "sound" to most Elricks, it isn't nearly as prominent as most basses, like how you can easily tell a P-bass sound or a Ken Smith sound. There's a clip on YouTube of Charlie Moreno playing an Elrick and it sound almost nothing like my Elricks do, save for the mid presence. One of the good things about Elrick having a more limited selection for pickup and preamp choices is that it kind of guarantees that each one will have a solid, usable tone.

I would like to try one with a set of Nordies in it though :)

Incredible basses guys, I hope to one day be a part of this club, but seeing as though I'm only 17, a Elrick doesn't seem to be in my future. I'm going to try and get to the Atlanta Bass Gallery later in the month to see if they have any in stock. I'm really GAS'in' for a Elrick 6 string singlecut, probably a wenge neck or a walnut top, maybe both. I really love the look of the Aero pickups though, but I played a Warrior 6 at GC, and it had Barts, and I've fallen in love since. I really hope I'll be able to join your ranks one day. BTW, the matching tuners look great nalapit13, and could you guys explain to me the attraction of the wooden bridge? I can understand the look, but what does it do tonally?

Atlanta Bass Gallery was the first place I played an Elrick Bass. It was a 5 string classic bolt on, and it was simply incredible and I was hooked from the beginning.
I was just looking on the Elrick site and noticed Invalid Link Removed. I didn't know Rob had posted my bass up on his site. I love this bass, the neck is just incredible and the harmonics are OFF THE CHART good. Great instruments, that in my opinion are too cheap used.

I am really wanting a single-cut 6. I imagine it will be my next bass purchase, not sure if I will go with the Elrick, though. Bryan your bass is simply awesome and I might shoot for that direction.

Did you know that Rob will be offering custom tops on his Expat NJS basses? He will discontinue all of the US made NJS afterward. He is also gearing up for the Evolution Expat bass, it will only be offered in a bolt-on model. He is also having custom sized bartolini PU made that will be the same pickups, but sized exactly as the Aeros(just in case you would want to upgrade to them in the future).

That's cool on the NJSs. Hopefully he'll add a matching headstock option on either the painted or the exotic-topped ones- I always prefer matching headstocks. The e-vo Expats make sense- that's basically what the RB5s were, although not under the same quality control. I'm not a fan of the pickup shape idea myself- I personally prefer Barts over Aeros, so if I wanted to switch out a set of Barts for a different set of Barts, that would make it more difficult, but I'm sure he chose that route because customers were asking for it.
