Might as well join the fun with my B205SM!

So, I scooped this bass from GC's online used inventory. The vintage four is $1499 new... and I stole this one for $650. I received it in deplorable condition, and it's no wonder the previous owner gave it up and subsequently no one bought it in-store! For starters, it was absolutely filthy... the neck relief, string heights, pickups and action were all out to lunch. A good cleaning and a good setup is all this bass needed to KILL every MIA fender I've had my hands on. Comparable in playabiliy and feel to basses I've owned in the 2k+ range. It's super solid, acoustically vibrant and the neck is almost dead straight with no buzz... shockingly good action on a solid modern feeling neck. I'm not 'crazy' about the relic, but its okay. I like having a bass I don't have to baby, that's for sure. All in all, I could not be more exited with this thing. I heard good things about the vintage four in particular before I hunted this one down... but I was literally stunned after I got it setup. After last nights rehearsal, I would consider paying $1500 for a new one.... just amazing value here folks!

I bought an LTD-B104SM a couple of months ago. It was B-stock, but man it plays great. I've been using it in the studio mostly. I really like the sound of the neck-side pickup - very bassy and woody with just enough treble for popping. I'm still trying to figure out a use for the bridge pickup. It's not bad, but I'm considering doing some minor routing and getting a music man pickup for that position. Seymour Duncan makes one for about $90.

Sweet find! I've been looking for a used Vintage Four off and on for a while, myself. The ones I've played have been every bit the equal of ESP's older 400 Series instruments.

I never would've had the guts to pick up such a gnarly specimen, though. Great job on spotting the diamond in the rough!

Here's my baby A LTD B-5E.

I guess I am confused. The above LTD B-5E shows in Black Ebony on the body. The one I ordered shows to be more dark brown (which I hope is true). Can anyone shed some light on this please??? Please do not misunderstand the above bass is very nice. I just like brown woods that's all
