Official Exquisite/Glarry/Burning Fire Bass Club?

Google Books (I prefer advanced search mode) has the full text of entire books published before 1923. Some fascinating obscuriana there. Even better IMO is that you can view, in whole or in part, some top tier magazines from the WWI era, such as the Strand. I could spend hours absorbed in the advertisements alone.

That’s cool, Gretch! I have never used Google Books, but will definitely have to check it out! I know Apple and Amazon (Kindle) offer a lot of books for free too. Just not many readers out there anymore when it comes to Gen Z’s and Gen Alpha’s.

So, I decided to mess around with recording a cover song today just for something to do. I pulled out the Exquisite bass that I haven't done anything to aside from tune it up, and laid down a bass track, and I've got to say I'm actually impressed! I don't know if I'll do any mods to it at all, because it sounds fine as it is (I almost certainly will mod it, but I don't have to). The vocals are just scratch vocals, but this should give you a good idea of what the bone stock bass sounds like (with a pick, because that's what the original bassist used).

Sisters of Mercy!! Nice one, my dude!! There are some that say she never even played bass on this album, cause they never played it live.

It's one of my favorites, but I mainly picked it because I just figured out how to program drums in Logic and the drums are super easy on this song.:roflmao:

Floodland is an excellent album! So overlooked too! I was so stoked when MOFI was releasing their version of it. I preordered it and was not disappointed!:drool:

"Driven like the Snow" has a sexy albeit minimal bass line also. :)

Logic Pro? You’re a Mac user, Kinda?:thumbsup:. Yeah, Logic can be daunting! Lol, you should try FCP for all your video editing needs!:smug: Talk about daunting!

Man that sounds great!

Spinning Tonight-

Back to Classical:D. During these chaotic times of pandemics and social media, it’s nice to unwind with some Classical.

Just an FYI... Since no pics = no bass.

I ordered a premium-priced ($56!!!) Glarry P-bass on Wed, March 18th. I received it on Sat, March 21st.
First look: Dark wood fingerboard really dry. Much happier after some oil. The back of the neck was *slightly* rough, like it could use a finer sanding (Should this be sealed? Tung oil or the like, or leave as is??)
Action, surprisingly good! I have not made any adjustments yet. I tuned to pitch, went out of tune after an hour or so. Apparently it needs some time to settle. Left the original strings, until it settles, then flats.

Bottom line: Probably worth twice the price. I don't plan on modding much, but it looks like the headstock decal could be sanded-off without much effort. Tort, down the line.

Pics to follow, and I will DEMAND a number. :)

I usually smooth the neck on my Glarry Basses with 1500 wetordry.

And here it is with the controls back in, ready to go. Some of the leads on the pots looked like they'd be a bit close to the copper so I made "washers" out of electrical tape to keep it from shorting. There were barely enough threads sticking through to get the nuts back on.

Believe it or not, you want the pot shafts grounded to the copper shielding

For lowest noise, we only want a single path to ground

There's quite a generous hole in the tape and copper is touching the pot bodies. I mainly wanted to protect where the solder terminals are, because the bottom of the cavity isn't anything like flat. If/when I replace the stock pots with some Bournes, I'll make sure I get a shot before the pots go back in.

I used the SBL method on the back of my neck. #800 sandpaper following by some teak oil on a paper towel to seal things up. Feels great.

Well, I won’t be ready for number quite yet.

I was looking at Glarry/Burning Fire/Exquisite and then an Ibanez Talman popped up at a price I couldn’t resist.

Truth is that I have three P basses now, and was just going to do nasty surgery and mods to the Glarry. I don’t have a mint green anything and never a Talman, so for now, I’ll just stand by.

Spending your Robhe refund?

good luck with the talman! i've never owned one but have played a friend's ax. they're nice. ;)

i'm still thinking about the GIB axes. i was thinking about putting one of my two-octave necks on the body, but now i'm thinking i'll just use the stock glarry, strip the frets, epoxy the fingerboard and go from there. i'm still thinking about it...and i've become a slow thinker of late. :D
