Official Joyo Club Part 2: Beyond Thunderclone

Hey guys,

here's a tune from our latest recording where you can hear both the American Sound (on all the time, I use it for preamp / tone shaping) and the ultimate drive (starting at 6'). Both pedals are killers !

I use a Sire MM V7 5 strings.

Wow man. Both sound great and I like the style of your band! That ultimate drive just sounded so amazing in this clip. Huge low end and beautiful drive character. When you put on the Ultimate Drive, was the American Sound on too?

Just got a Classic Flanger for the second time and am thinking of refinishing it - Hey modders/painters/etchers, what's the trick to getting everything detached from the case without destroying things?

Thanks!

Pull the knobs, remove all the nuts (one on each pot, one on the switch, and one on each side), unscrew the bottom and done.

FWIW the Joyo Digital Delay is crap. Very lo-fi sound with a very muddy repeats. Stay away if looking for a nice crisp digital delay sound.
Don't really have any interest in a digital delay, I prefer the analog delay sound myself.

However if someone designed a pedal that was supposed to make a very lo-fi muddy sound, I'd be interested in that for a dirt pedal. Do you think there is a use for this pedal's sound from your experience or is it just bad?

@FDPBass
THANKS!
Trankopire.
That was rippin', right up my alley.

thanks guys, glad you like what you hear!

Yeah, the ultimate drive was quite a surprise when hearing it recorded in proper conditions. In a live/rehearsal setting, it does sound ok, but it's a kinda on/off thing: either not loud enough, and then not very distinct, or just way too freaking loud. But man, it sure does sound sweet on the recording! (some more available on our Bandcamp, btw)

The AS is always on, fyi. The actual chain is Sire V7 -> Joyo Dyna compressor (always on) -> ultimate drive -> AS -> EHX deluxe memory man -> whatever amp or PA system available!

cheers!

Just ordered both the clean glass and husky drive from the ironman series. These are essentially the American and the Ultimate Drive OCD clone, in much smaller boxes. I ordered from pitbull audio. AJ there was good to deal with. I'll report back when they arrive. Went tiny thinking they will fit on my fly rig board, along with the BFR, and the battery pack, and PRA wireless reciever. The PRA has a footprint about the same as a credit card, while the battery pack is about the size of my cell phone. Battery pack is the warwick rockboard power LT XL.

I'm also interested on the Husky after I heard that OCD on bass vid over Youtube. So please report your finding with Husky.
I had VT Bass already, what improvement Clean Glass / American Sound brings ?

My initial taste tests have made me hungry for more.

The Clean Glass, which is essentially American Sound without the three band EQ, seems like it is going to, at the very least, give me a second "channel" if you will. With the voice control all the way down, it sort of gets that ampeg "ultra low" thing happening. I can get it to just break up when I dig in, which is what I was hoping for.

The Husky Drive is very much an Ultimate Drive in a small box. Maybe a little more controlled. Almost a "polite" OCD.

These quick tests were only done direct into my Rolls PM351, so I can't really say what they sound like in front of the rest of my rig, or in the mix. So far, I'm a happy camper.

I see one IC, two transistors, and a bunch of surface mount caps and resistors. There are two boards. The bottom one only has a few components, right where the switch is soldered to it. The pot shafts just poke thru the case, but the knobs are covered. The footswitch is about 80% of what holds the board in the case. The I/O jacks are sitting in a cutout. Their nuts do tighten down to/on the sides of the metal case, but the jacks themselves are sitting in a cutout, rather than a hole, if that makes sense. I'll take more pics if anyone wants them. I'll also do an A/B between the husky and the ultimate. Same with the glass, tho my big one is the AC TONE, not the American. More to come. Got questions?? Ask. Video?? Maybe, esp once the BFR arrives, and I get all this stuff dialed in.

You said someting about "Ampegness" any chance to compare Clean Glass to VT Bass ?
And UD vs Husky, all direct through Clean Glass will be great.

Yeah, they are tiny. As for the Clean Glass to VT, I do happen to have a VT Deluxe, so I can do that. I'll compare the drives thru the Clean Glass as well. I just happened to turn the glass off once yesterday, the drive went from useable to fizzy, as expected.
