How'd you like the black beauties? I wanted to get a set ever since I saw Geezer playing them on the Heaven & Hell at Radio City a few years ago. They will definitely be on my black and maple 55-02 with black hardware (when I finally get it). Think I have a thing for black :ninja:

Makes me want my white DJ5 back even more. I've been stuck w/out a bass for almost a week now! Its driving me nuts.

Hey guys, I've got a 4-94 I bought in 2003 with the bartolini pickup/electronics package. That bass is the bee's knees; it almost always works in any musical situation.

I picked up a Lakland 55-94 last year and it's got the Lakland pickups and LH3 preamp. I have made sure the frequency selector matches my 4-94 @ 500hz and I've checked the output volume level to match the 4-94 (which is disdainful to do with the lack of a trim pot on the LH3 preamp...)

Unfortunately the Lakland pickups/pre don't sound as good as the Bartolini. Is there anyone that has experience with both setups that can elaborate on what they can do to make one sound like the other?

this is probably just something that is subjective, really. you like the barts, and that may be what you want to look for. just because it's a USA model doesn't mean you can't change the electronics out. :)

i've only ever played the LH3/Lakland pups, and i know i don't like them as much as my stock Musicman Sterling. I'll probably swap with a nordie or maybe a bart pup in the MM position. The J pup didn't get used as much. I'm also going to rewire the mm to be switched between series, parallel and single mode like the single H sterlings.
