: Hey Guys.

: Which Tune basses do you own.,the Korean or Japanese built Tunes
: and from your experience with them, how do they rate?

: James Tejada

Hai. I'm Bernd from Holland.

Last year I bought a second-hand Tune Bass Maniac Standard for 300 euro. The bass was built in the late 80's or begin 90's, and was bought in Holland for about 900 euro. It's a very good, lightweight bass. It plays and sounds very good. I became a real Tune fan and when I play the Fender I miss my Tune.........

In my search for any backgrounds of my bass I wrote a mail to Tune, this is what they send me back:

Dear Bernd,
Sorry for our late reply to your e-mail.

First of all, I'd like to give you an information about TUNE BASSES.

Please noted that we are the owner of " Tune" brand for world market except Japan.
We have Trade mark registration for Europe, USA and Korea.

Actually Tune bass was designed by famous Japanese bass designer Mr. Hatsun Fujitany.
And WSC in Korea was a major supplier for Tune basses.

Along the way, Mr. Hatsun passed his right of Tune brand to Mr. Choi , our president of WSC.
Because he trust Mr. Choi is the right person who really understand how to build Tune based on the original specification.
During this process, one of Mr. Hatsun's staff asked him to leave the right for Tune brand usage in Japan and Mr. Hatsun granted this to him.

In the meantime, it seems that your Tune bass is made in Japan.

We're sorry we couldn't help you on this matter.

Best Regards,
Overseas Sales Dept.
Hannah WSC

So, my experiance with Tune is only positive and I can recommand this bass to all players!!

Greetz from Holland and sorry for my bad English.

As I know, all basses by TUNE were build in Korea. Japanese copyright apply just for Japan. Rest of the world was not covered and builder used (to say) "empty space" in copyright licence to cover that "emptiness". I am just sorry that none of companies (except Sam Ash, recently) did not go in distribution.

Here are some details of my TUNE:

You are 100% incorrect. The original Tune basses were designed and made in Japan. In fact they still make them. Something happened where the partners split and they started making factory made Tune basses in Korea. There is still an ongoing copyright issue.
I have played both. The Korean are great basses. The japanese made basses definitely feel boutique.

I know the basic facts. I think Hatsun (the constructor) actually, OUTSOURCED his production to Korea and after a while happened that split.

I suppose the builder is still building them for Japanese market. But, I might be wrong. Lack of relevant information is problem for many of us.

BUT.

I have serious question for all:

How to get the case for TUNE bass?

I've seen couple of cases. Some (rare) of them were original with TUNE signature. Some of them were (like mine) just GC or other generic replacement.

Do you have any idea how to get Japanese or Korean TUNE case?

That Japanese web site seems to be very expensive (35,000-36,750 yen)

Korean TUNE web has this one:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

for $102.

Now, that Korean web does not look very secure and trustworthy to me.

What to do? Any ideas?

Mr.Choi is a very nice man. When i bought my twb63 at music expo he even offer me refret free of charge when my bass needed.

I believe you could buy any tune mik products from www.guitarjonesusa.com.

Japanese tune case could only order directly from japan.

Man, thats really NICE!!! Im a bit jealous of that flame!!

Question fellow Japanese Tune owner: What is the knob layout of your bass. Mine is a bit unclear. Im pretty sure the top 2 are volume & p/u blend. However, the bottom knobs seem to be (from the bottom) treble, bass, & I can't determine the last knob. It has no center detent which leads me to think its not the standard EQ knob.

Thanks!!!
i guess is the bottom knob from left to right is bass mid treble.
also, another japanese brand 'bossa' bass uses the same GZP2 preamp as tune bass does.

Im all for talking tvrtko! I think its a shame that Sam Ash dropped the line. These basses have to be one of the best values out there for top quality at budget pricing. I have to admit, I tried mine on a whim one day, while shopping at Sam Ash in Nashville, TN. My 6 strings was used, and has a blem on the lower horn. Im not usually drawn to these type of basses, when buying off the rack, but besides the blem, the finish was flawless, and I liked the see-thru red finish that shows the flame of the Swamp Ash. Im not usually attracted to Gold Hardware, but it really works on this bass. Anyway, when I played it a first, the strings were dead, and it wasnt quite dialing in a tone, but I new that it had something special, and I liked the string spacing better than any 6er that I had owned before it. After getting home and installing a set of DAddario XL strings, a quick setup, and a small adjustment to the Frequency trim pot, I was in 6 string heaven, a place I had never been before, and I still cant get over how a 34 inch scale bass can deliver such a tight sounding B string, while producing a very bassy C string. That is why I like to call mine, a Contrabass, because to me, that is what it is, like the low register of a nice Grand Piano!

Used to have this one, but made a big mistake:

But now I have this one:
312331877.jpg

It's a Japanese one, special ordered from them because it's not a standard model. I had them remake the old one.

Unfortunately I haven't really jived with the new one yet. I need to get special strings made because nobody makes strings light enough for my liking at a 36" scale, and it needs a ramp like nobody's business because the strings are so high off the body (due to neck angle). Super super clean recording instrument, but I just haven't untapped it's mojo yet. :(

(Please, no number!)

is there a better way to post your pic besides attaching the file???

Yes. Subscribe to a website like photobucket etc. You'll then be able to upload pictures to a photo album. Once you've done that, click on the photo you want, and there will be several url's listed below it. There should be one that says forums.

Right click and click on "copy" in the menu that comes up, then go to the post you're writing, right click where you want the photo to be, and click on "paste" in the menu That comes up.

This is the way I do it - I'm sure there are others....
