anyone have a clean sonus 4 string with black hardware that they are considering selling?
Wow. No love for Sonus 6 strings? Because I've been seriously considering putting mine on the market.
I'll see if I can reach anyone at Zon and find out if these are different. They're definitely a different size/shape due to string spacing, but I'm not sure if they're a totally different model or not. I think they are, as they sound different from the two Customs I had in the past. I had a Studio once with Barts and these look to be the same pickups that one had. They're more open and actually pretty aggressive, though some of that is due to placement.. The neck pickup is isn't as close to the neck as typical Custom spacing. Whatever they are, they sound great.
A while back I went on a search fora better string ,wich can be an expensive endeavor .I used Ernie balls on My Stingray and liked them when they were new.I love new strings .I had asked a prominent high end bass shop owner what were a real great seller that people were buying alot of .He directed me to DR Hi beams as a good choice .I have had a hard time dialing in a great tone on my new Zon .Today I put on a new set of Hi beams and bam there it is that killer tone .This bass now kicks my ass over and over and over .Iam just thrilled .If you like Stainless steel strings then certainly try these out .They sound just crazy good .This bass is now the Bomb! thanks ZON thanks DR .You made my day .The tone to my Zon is now cloud nine Zen .For me that was the missing link to awesome tone on my new Zon .Those strings are like giving your bass viagra.Yeah baby yeah!
Those are great strings, no doubt. Now, if you want a little more meat in the mids, and maybe a stiffer string you can set the action lower on (if you want, not a necessity), try the LoRider stainless steels. The other strings I'm having particularly good luck with as well are the Sadowsky Blue Label stainless steels on my Zons. Kinda' like the LoRiders, but I'm digging the Blues a little more these days for some reason.
When I was on the string search I did try the low riders .They came off in one day .They were too stiff for my likes .Pure pain.When I ordered my Modulus VJ I had the hi beams put on right away and never looked back.So I grew very accustomed to them .Putting them on this Zon was a great sigh of relief it really floored me .The sound is to me just super great .The instrument came alive to me .I do play alot unplugged too as to not disturb the household, they sound great for that also instead of thud thud thud .Miss my x avalon u5 for headphone playing .
Took the neck off the sonus and gave the truss rod a quarter turn adjustment and flattened the neck out a bit .The neck joint was so tight I had a hard time getting it apart .I finally got it away from the pocket enough to get my fingers in the pickup end of the neck to give it a good tug out of there.Plays even nicer now. Welcome to the machine. Iam really happy with my new Zon.The tone floors me.Have been getting some nice creamy tube tones out of the new to me Mesa big block .Dialed the active mid all the way off and have been really liking the reason it replaced the Sansamp RPM.Just wanted the real deal with some slight tube saturation .I do recommend those RPM but do not like the fizzy saturation with the gain up in comparison to the real deal .My Zon came with the ZB -5 preamp with two different mid freq settings .I have no reason to dislike the preamp it functions well and I hear no noise . These Zons are great instruments .Very happy with my purchase .Elated.Was jamming along to some phat ZZtop Rio Grande mudd jams .PPPPHHHHAAATTT It was interstate highway of PHATNESS.

When I read your posts, I imagine a man with a thick, thick Fargo accent speaking rapidly and without breath to a half-peeled banana.
I used to use Low Riders on my Zons from time to time (love them on my Tobias, even if I otherwise stick purely to Zon nickel and TI strings), but I've never tried Hi Beams. Maybe next time I want something totally different I'll try them.

I was wanting a string that was great and readily available without having to pay over average costs for them .We take our health for granted .Never thought a day would appear in my health where something would restrict my playing .That day has appeared in the simple but restrictive form of chronic tennis elbow. Micro tears in your tendons attaching your muscles .It really pays to warm up before setting the earth on fire with speedy licks .Have been playing this new Zon four hours a day since the second of the year .It hurts to grab a gallon of milk from the fridge with my left arm .For those looking for an easy playing string The hi beams fit the bill.Iam curious of the strings people talk of here .An avid bass player also said to try the new Ernie Ball cobalts -? Have never tried those. Nice to see strings moving forward in advancement with instruments .Without these improvements of easier playing instruments and strings I would not be able to play and in an aggressive manner or possibly at all.
Hi-Beams are my "go to" strings, and my 519 will have some soon enough. Sunbeams are good too, same tension just a nickel string. These Zon strings really aren't bad at all.
