I've tried a lot of different strings through the years (round wound nickel/steel) and ended up trying the Zon brand strings and really liked them, I was surprised at how much better they were to other high end strings...under my nose the whole time!
I've recently tried Zon nickels on mine but didn't like them although I loved their Steels. DR Hi Beams were also a good match IME
While waiting for my Zon I picked up a nice used Fender Squier precision bass on craigslist to have something to bang on (75$) . slapped a set of DR Hi Beams on it and enjoyed it alot. Those strings really made that bass come alive. I like how string manufacturers are making advances . New alloy recipes are an advancement I am grateful to enjoy.

I've got a set of Zon nickel Alex Bershadsky sig strings on my 4 banger. They sound and feel fantastic

I really liked LaBella Nickel Slappers, and have been using Circle K's balanced .130 set on my Legacy Elite 6 for about 2 years. If the LaBella's were cheaper and balanced tension, they would be my favorite strings of all time.

On my fretless I've liked the Zon nickels, also DR Sunbeams.
But my favorites are Ken Smith Compressorwound.

Iam currently using DR Sunbeams on my Sonus 5-1 with positive results. I was using the Hi Beams and liked them too. Years ago I was using the Ken Smith ( pretty sure they were stainless) they had purple ends and the Ken Smith Bass Burners ( barn burners) I liked both those types also. Used the green slinkys on my Stingray 5 z and liked them but they dont last as long as the DRs and the DR s sound as good if not better. Liked a set of Diadarrio super soft nickels a few months ago too. Have heard positive reviews about the cobalts from Ernie Ball but Iam very satisfied with DR s right now.

All the BB's I've had in the past have certainly been Stainless Steel.
They have redesigned the packaging since then, so things could have changed I guess, the Neons are based on Sunbeams...
I've been using either Rotosounds or Dr Hi beams on my Sonus, but been thinking about changing to Nickels on the next string change.
The Bartolini pickups,active electronics and inherent characteristics of theZon neck make it a very powerful tool when amplified .Have found the DR Sunbeams to be a better match for my particular tastes.They sound very pleasing .I keep thinking -this bass sounds good while playing it .It toned down some of the high end frequency in a manner that was good to my ears.This is while playing alone at home ,sometimes being in a band those stainless steel characteristics may be more what someone is searching out tone wise . You just have to experiment.

I had always thought the Black Beauties were nickel coated but steel makes more sense as they last so long. Either way, I love them on my fretless. The coating helps w any finger noise.

Guitar Centers used site has one. Not sure if they ship outside of the US or not.
