Do you know if the Big Blades are the 'clean and clear' or 'warm and wooly' variety?
Can you tell by the wiring?

Holy Crap, You’re right! I just got this bass and noticed it sounded miles away from my old 2008 519 and figured it was the pickups, but maybe it’s just the combination of the Zens and the Bartolini preamp that I’m not liking.

What about the sound is not to your liking? and might it be possible to run the pickups passive for a while, bypassing the preamp entirely? that might narrow down the part of the signal chain that isn't what you're after.

In my case - as much as I like bartolini pickups (except the singles), i'm not a huge fan of the preamps. Especially on the Zons, the Polyfusion or East preamps seem to pair up with the Barts nicely.
