Official Zon Club Part 5

Hello club.
Looking for pics/whereabouts of a specific Zon TJ4 that circulated here about/over ten years ago. It had the special pickup placement but had two wide style Bartolonis (like the one on the 4/1 models or similar). Does anyone have any memories of this bass? Extended cutaway, natural wooden top.

As the thread is a bit quiet let me share some pics of my first gig with my 519-34

Total joy to play, full and punchy!

I got the Barto Split Coil to replace the Singles...the jury is still out, maybe i miss a bit of the growl of the J or i should have waited a first gig to have a reference point, anyway this one is here to stay and i might switch again the pickup so i can make my mind

(the original singles are very quiet and i don't record in studio)

Now I think i need another Zon 5 (in 34 inch)

One is with the "standard" Barto preamp and originally the singles, so kind of supercharged jazz, i change to dual coil which has tamed the inner growl of it but it sounds great, round and full with that sweet compress and attack

The other is with soapbar but i don't know exactly which are they (need to reach out to Barto to try to understand), could be a split in the neck, soloed is quite nice, the bridge alone does not seem very useful. It has the polyfusion preamp, not much experience yet but also that nice full and punch sound

I might put back the singles in the 519-34, it would make more for 2 differents personality of those bass

As I got a second Sonus 5, I've decided to part away with the Sonus 4/1 (which I got out of my Zon fetish as I could not acquired a good 5), I've listed on Reverb but happy to work a deal directly with TB interested members

I have a TJ5 with a Bartolini preamp in it, and it sounds a bit flat/muffled compared to my other TJ5 with the Polyfusion. Based on suggestions from much earlier in this thread, I ordered an Audere preamp ([Invalid or Expired Link Removed]) after being told by Martin that, while Zon could provide me with a Polyfusion, the holes for it might need to be moved relative to where there currently are with the Bartolini.

At any rate, I'm pretty stoked to drop in the Audere once it arrives, and I'll report back when it's in. :woot:

EDIT: I gotta take a family pic soon, it's quite the family!

Hi Zon warriors,
I think it's time for me to also add to the mix.
Here are a couple of pics of my fairly new dream bass. It's a Sonus Special 5 string, lefty (duh!), ash body w bubinga top, fretless with gloss body finish and wenge tone plate. And.its.perfect!
I have tried my hands on a few fretless basses before (Celinder and Wal) and although they sounded great, they were both off. One: they had dead spots around the fifth to seventh fret, which didn't really add anything good to anything. Then, the Celinder was too thin in the upper register and - for whatever reason - the Wal just sounded off. Too slow in response, I think. I know it's a sin for some Wal worshippers to even say that considering how coveted they are, but I never really fell in love with the bass. Sorry!
This one, on the other hand...! MAN! This is - truly! the best sounded instrument I have EVER played! (My wife claims I love the bass more than her...). It's warm, fast in response, even across the fingerboard and has the best mwhah I have ever heard. Amazing.
Oh! And one thing I should mention: I got it a year after having ordered it!! I know that some have struggled but for whatever reason, I really got lucky. I ordered the bass in November 2021 and got it November 2022. Joe was - and is - kind and very approachable. And fun.
