I don't know if I have ever seen a fretted hyper bass! That body is gorgeous and a Lane Poor MM pickup! That has to sound amazing!
Benavente on the left, Fodera in the middle. The Benavente actually predates them both- it was built in 2007. The Zon is from 2009, and the Fodera 2010. Still three of my favorite basses.

In that Zon, it's a Lane Poor HB5 in an MM shell- not a true MM pickup. The preamp is an East U-retro. I've also tried an East/ACG filter preamp in it.

How did you like the ACG pre? I had one in my Ibby GWB-1, then took it out and put it in a stomp box. I like it better in the box.
I’ve been eyeing the VB4 for some time now. I’d love to actually try one. Very difficult. I’ve never even seen one in person. I’ve been regularly searching for them as they come up for sale. Needless to say, no luck yet.

Ordered a custom headless Sonus 519 back in June, and was given an ETA of 8 months so I haven't received it yet. Even so, I'll give you my 2¢: I'd heard many good things about Zon quality over the years, and tried a friend's Legacy Elite years ago at a local TB GTG. This year I got the bug for a 519. As you said they are hard to find, but my local dealer, Jive Sound in Alexandria VA, had a 619 in stock so I gave it a try. I'm definitely not a six stringer but was impressed with the tone (even with stale strings!), playability, and build quality. I support Jive Sound whenever possible, but ordered direct from Zon because I'm getting customizations that couldn't be done a la carte: headless, with custom pickup and wiring configuration.

Zon will make anything for you. It’s just a matter of waiting for it to be delivered. Actually I’m quite sure another member had a 6 string vb4 made with a 32” scale. Again, it’s just a matter of waiting.
Isn't Todd Johnson's latest bass a Sonus TJ-6 that is headless and 32" scale?
Does anyone feel that having a VB built in a 32" scale would be neutering the overall sound to a certain degree? I'd hate to end up finding out it was an expensive experiment that fell short. No pun intended.

Don’t bother responding as I’ve discovered this may be a controversial subject. You can see how it could potentially be a big decision especially considering the circumstances of it being a high end instrument. Thanks for reading though.

I have a copy of Todd Johnson's latest bass, all specs are the same except my string spacing is 18mm instead of 16.5. The sound is massive and warm. My Vb4 is 34" scale, so I wouldn't know what shortening the scale does to the feel and sound of that instrument.
