I have tried it at 800, 400, and 270ish (due to component value). The mid Q is very wide and creates more of a wash than a peak. It will add fullness, but doesn't really create that nice peaky growl most higher/narrower Q settings do. The 270 ended up boosting more bass and really just made it kind of muddy, unlike the 250hz setting on a Bartolini that produces a nice low mid growl and punch. 800hz isn't bad if you have a pickup with a lot of low mid growl like a DiMarzio Model J or something. The treble can be somewhat useless at 6k as this is higher than the resonance peak of a lot of pickups, or is out of the trouble area of the bass where it just isn't very effective. Don't even get me started on the bass knob...this would only be useful for a cheap bridge J pickup with no low end.
On my Zon Legacy Elite 6, for recording and live I keep everything flat and the bass just sounds AMAZING!!!!
Currently I have been liking a really low mid heavy growly tone, so I have the mid trim boosted a little more than half way on my Legacy Elite's internal mid trim pot. I will add some bass if I solo the bridge pickup, and add some highs if running 50/50 or on the neck. My only complaint with the polyfusion is the hiss and lack of head room when the battery gets below about 8.8 volts.
I have to say, that I did change the capacitance of my bridge pickup, though, to move the resonance peak lower. I also added some resistance to lower the peaks amplitude, so it's not quite a bone stock Legacy Elite.
Fresh 9V batteries run closer to 9.6 and should technically be considered dead <9V, so that is not entirely surprising.
My Duracells from Costco always read 9.47 when new. I have found that the lithium disposables from Energizer read lower, but do last longer. However, you lose headroom. Not so much with flat eq, but definitely if you start boosting mids and bass. This is with 1/4" from the strings on the bridge with less distance for the neck pickup. It is more than livable, though, and I have yet to find a bass that I like the sound of more than my Legacy. We won't even get into playability....
I do wish it were a pound lighter, which might be acheivable with ultralights and an aluminum bridge. I guess 9.5lbs isn't terrible for a six string though.

I’m sure I’ve posted this before but this is my lovely Zon Sonus 5 Fretless. I love this bass dearly.

@armybass what is the topwood? Is it Koa or redwood, or something completely different? I got to play an Ash body redwood topped bass the other day, and the acoustic resonance really added to the growl. Much more than mahogany and maple.
I’m told it is a Swamp Ash body with a myrtle wood top. Don’t know much about
myrtle wood though but the bass plays and sounds like a Zon should. Amazing.
My fretless Sonus made it into the studio this weekend, and I couldn't be more satisfied. I can't wait to hear how it sounds in the final product.
not just a sonus, but a sonus custom! unlike the standard sonus with j style pickups and a bart preamp, this one has the dual soaps and the polyfusion preamp. i used to have a fretted one. superb basses.
