I had the soapbars with the Bart pre and loved it. I put an ACG preamp in and love it even more.

i've always been more of a j type guy, so definitely narrow.

@kesslari how is the ACG output? I think the Polyfusion must have a buffer and a boost, because the soapbars have pretty weak output by themselves, and the Aguilar didn't seem to offer much gain.

The ACG output is very, very hot. Too hot for my favorite DI (and that's without boosting any of the filters).

Never have. Both of my Zon's had the Bart pre, which I liked a lot. I just like what I can do with the filters (ACG) more.

I took the Polyfusion out of my 5 string, and replaced it with the East/ACG and then the East U-Retro. Much hotter output from the East preamps...though I was not too keen on the ACG version on a single pickup bass. I would try it again on a dual pickup instrument though.

I am extremely happy with the East preamps in my Zons.

The ACG preamp really comes into it's own with two pickups, being able to blend two very distinct sounds is wonderful, particularly on a fretless

Random question to the Zon community... Anybody know who winds Joe's UltraSonic strings? My bass came stock with the Nickels and I found them pretty impressive. Flipped to the DR Pure Blues recently though.

I don't know, but you can order the strings. They always arrive promptly.

The Zon Nickels are my co-favorite strings (with TI nickels).

I like the DR Pure Blues too. My Zon Sonus fretless came with those on it and I enjoyed them. I run LaBelle 706N-B now. They really feel and sound amazing!

This is an older Sonus without the truss Rod. But the neck is just perfect as is. I tried the East preamp before settling on the Pope. Big thing with the Pope is that the lower mids can be dialed in to perfection. Great fretless.

I notice that the Pope and the Polyfusion have the same freq for the low mids @330hz. That really is a nice frequency center.

i personally prefer 250, but 330 is nice.

Where do you guys get your Pope pre amps, and are most of you installing them yourselves? I like the idea of dialing in the mids... Thanks
