Oh My! CME exclusive shell pink Squier Bronco

I wish they would've done the Mustang with the standard 'stang pickup instead of a full size PJ set. It just uglies up the whole aesthetic.

PJ setup on the Mustang looks so terrible

On the other hand its one of the most versatile and practical pickup combinations....I think the reason you think its ugly its cus you're used to the classic mustang look. Sound/versatility>aesthetics

Completely agree. I bought a PJ Mustang because I wanted the Precision pickup in a short scale bass. That was more important to me than aesthetic concerns (although, in order, the Mustang body shape, maple fretboard & shell pink colour all tipped the scales in the favour of that bass).

As much as I like the flavour of the classic Mustang pup, with the PJ setup I know I can get any aftermarket replacments I desire easily, and I know it'll sit in any band mix easily - and how to EQ it if it doesn't - and ultimately those things mean more to me when I gig than the pickups looking a bit odd.

Agree, short scale+p pickup was the draw. Stock I pickup is really just for decoration, I don’t think there was much it did with the p pickup and solo’d it was about half the volume of the P and sounded less than stellar. After replacing the pickups with an Aguilar PJ set I actually see the appeal of the PJ combo. Still a bit offensive to my OCD around symmetry and aesthetics as far as pickups go (still not as offensive as an SSH strat-yuck), but some good sounds.

Considering how weak most Fender J pickups are compared to their P pickups, I’m guessing this has that classic unbalanced volume between the neck and bridge. You call that versatile, I call it poor planning.

This is very weird. I'm doing Bronco build just now and I genuinely had no idea that Squier were releasing this!

Nice!

I am doing one too. Bronco body off of E-Bay, previously oversprayed a dark silver metallic. Mustang PJ neck. I will be painting it Hunter Green. And since I will have two Bronco Bass pickups after pulling the one from the Shell Pink I just ordered, I might as well put both in the build!

Well! They are available here! Even though my shorty stable is rather full*, I want one! €199 is a little steep, tho.

BUT!!! While their ad does feature some Fender-sourced images, their "in shop" photos do not show the bad string spacing issue, so I assume they're going to ship with the "proper" bridge.

Waiting for me when I got home from work. Took a quick pic on the cat couch.

Best factory fret work I've ever seen on a Squier, and I am a very harsh judge of fret work and string nuts. I'll hit the ends with some steel wool, and give all the frets a polish as a matter of course, but I won't need to take out my files at all. The fret ends are nicely smoothed, and even the fretboard edges are slightly softened. I recently received a MIM Fender, at nearly 3X the price of this bass, with far worse fret work than this.

Amazing quality for the price. Even the nut appears to be decent (though I have not checked it out in detail yet).

Very pleasantly surprised by this. I expected to have to do far more to the neck. I wonder if a little extra TLC goes into the dealer exclusives...or if my bass is simply a Wednesday bass by luck of the draw.

This thing is gonna look awesome with the lacquered black guard.

Mine arrived early. Thanks CME! THIS is a great bass. I modded a red one a couple years ago.
I find no issues with fit or finish. The bridge is no problem and tuning machines hold and feel smooth. Giggable right out of the box. Pickup is great really.

I think it’s beautiful as is. The only thing I am replacing are the strings. Just ordered TI Flats.

....This is actually caused by the notches in the saddles being in the wrong places. There is NO WAY to fix this with a setup....
....I made Thomann aware of the problem at the time and they promised to look into it. I also posted a thread here on talkbass to warn people about it. I'm shocked to see these saddles still being used almost a year later. I'm pretty sure Fender must know about this.

Yes, but Fender IS Fender, and these days, is not the company which it USED to be.

BTW, did anyone who bought one of these Broncos measure the nut width ?

How wide is it, 1.5" or 1.6" ?
