I wish they would've done the Mustang with the standard 'stang pickup instead of a full size PJ set. It just uglies up the whole aesthetic.
PJ setup on the Mustang looks so terrible
On the other hand its one of the most versatile and practical pickup combinations....I think the reason you think its ugly its cus you're used to the classic mustang look. Sound/versatility>aesthetics
Cute..... but bridge assembly a bit crook and cause string all off aligned...
Agree, short scale+p pickup was the draw. Stock I pickup is really just for decoration, I don’t think there was much it did with the p pickup and solo’d it was about half the volume of the P and sounded less than stellar. After replacing the pickups with an Aguilar PJ set I actually see the appeal of the PJ combo. Still a bit offensive to my OCD around symmetry and aesthetics as far as pickups go (still not as offensive as an SSH strat-yuck), but some good sounds.Completely agree. I bought a PJ Mustang because I wanted the Precision pickup in a short scale bass. That was more important to me than aesthetic concerns (although, in order, the Mustang body shape, maple fretboard & shell pink colour all tipped the scales in the favour of that bass).
As much as I like the flavour of the classic Mustang pup, with the PJ setup I know I can get any aftermarket replacments I desire easily, and I know it'll sit in any band mix easily - and how to EQ it if it doesn't - and ultimately those things mean more to me when I gig than the pickups looking a bit odd.
Considering how weak most Fender J pickups are compared to their P pickups, I’m guessing this has that classic unbalanced volume between the neck and bridge. You call that versatile, I call it poor planning. On the other hand its one of the most versatile and practical pickup combinations....I think the reason you think its ugly its cus you're used to the classic mustang look. This is very weird. I'm doing Bronco build just now and I genuinely had no idea that Squier were releasing this!

I like Shell Pink, but the white PG and pale neck do it no favors.
~....This is actually caused by the notches in the saddles being in the wrong places. There is NO WAY to fix this with a setup....
....I made Thomann aware of the problem at the time and they promised to look into it. I also posted a thread here on talkbass to warn people about it. I'm shocked to see these saddles still being used almost a year later. I'm pretty sure Fender must know about this.
